Woke up pretty early as I was meeting the tour guide from Wayfarers for our hike through the valley. The New Zealand couple Guy and Shannene were also there. We got into our guides car and drove through the city and out of Kathmandu. We arrived to a village and began our hike. He couldn't speak much English but we still understood some of what he was saying.
He took us through the village and showed us the stupa's and a few of the local sights, such as a lake called, from memory, the Snake Lake. It was quite a pretty lake with the Himalayas in the background. It also seemed to be the place where a lot of the local teenagers liked to hang out.
He then took us along a track to another small village. Along the way passing many of the locals going about their business. One older lady I saw was carrying a heavy basket of what looked like wheat. I was amazed at seeing this. We then stopped at a place a long the path where we were given Nepalese Marsala tea. It was so nice. We continued walking through more villages, not sure what villages they were or what they did as our guide couldn't speak much English, but the scenery was amazing. We saw a lot of rice and mustard fields along the way. At one stop off point we came to a place where there was a large stupa, which had piles and piles of rice around it being dried by the local women. Then every street we turned down there was more and more piles of rice.
We eventually stopped off for lunch at another village and there was lots of music playing. There seemed to be a party going on. After lunch we soon saw where the party was and it looked like they were having a great time. Our guide told us that a lot of the locals from the city like to come here on the weekends. We then went up a looked at another stupa and there was quite a few people here praying and leaving offerings. We then continued walking again and whilst we were walking two little girls came up and started to talking to us and asking us for chocolate. They then grabbed my hands and walked with us along the path. Eventually they let go and went back to where they came from.
We then came to this steep hill and I struggled to climb this hill but didn't feel so bad as a local woman also struggled to climb this hill. Eventually making it up the hill we had an amazing view across the valley. We then made it to our finishing point and waited for our driver to pick us up. We drove back to Thamel and I arranged to have dinner with Guy and Shannene. It was nice to have dinner with someone as I'd had been eating on my own for the past two nights so it was great to talk to someone.
