The Great Life
Well, I finally made it to Spain...and just in time for Christmas! Today is christmas eve and I just finished observing the procession of the three kings. Around 10 pm we will head up to La Plaza de España, which is where columbus lived while La Santa Maria was being built (5 minutes from my apartment, wow!) There, we will here the christmas story and listen to mass. Then we will follow the three wise men down to La Plaza de Toros and watch them bring gifts to baby Jesus.
I am so glad to be here! Janell and I flew Air France, and for the longest time I thought I was going to be stuck in France and with the French language forever. I forgot what it is like to not be able to speak or understand another language...it's frustrating and annoying! URGH! Anyway we got to Spain, and found that Janell's bag had broke and she was missing several items. We managed to file a report with Air France, buy train tickets and run across half of Madrid in 45 minutes. We finally arrived in El Puerto de Santa Maria after a car ride, 3 airplanes, 2 metros, 2 trains and another car ride around 11pm Wednesday. I left my house at 7pm on Monday...jet lag anyone?
This morning (okay so it was noon), we were woken up by the director of the school knocking on our door, but he brought us a microwave so it was okay. We eventually got going and then headed to el supermercado. All I wanted was peanut butter sandwich stuff and cereal. I managed to find some frosted flakes and then I tried to find some peanut butter. Do they have any peanut butter? Of course not! They had chocolate and almond spreads, but not peanut butter! I just want some stinkin' peanut butter!!!!!
After our adventure at the market we did a little exploring. We quickly found the beach and chilled, pretty literally for a bit. It is beautiful here. We're in the middle of the city and yet right next to the beach. Too bad I have to stay for 2 months, I'm totally suffering. :)
Well, my cafe time is about up so I have to go. I'll post pictures and write again on Monday when school starts.
Love,
Abril
