Today I had a tour of the blue mountains booked; I got up really early, made my way into town and got my self to the pick-up point I'd chose online.
I must have been stood there about 20minutes before the bus pulled up and it was bloody freezing!!!
There was quite a lot of other people on the bus and majority of them were from England and then the other people were a family from Mongolia and a family from Singapore. Luckily there was a lady from Bristol on her own, so we paired up for the day.
First stop was Featherdale Wildlife Park, which was very small but really good as up until this point I'd not even seen a kangaroo or koala and that's pretty shameful for visiting Australia haha.
I got to hold a snake round my neck which liked my throat a little too much so I didn't hold it for long at all... Then we got to pet koala's, you aren't allowed to hold them in New South Wales because of animal rights or something lol, then I tried posing with a kangaroo but I made the ultimate mistake of not buying kangaroo food so they weren't interested at all!!!
I also came across this loose bird which was a bit like a chicken but had a little mini Afro; I got very excited and proceeded to chase it round the farm and take pictures of it. And of course it's not a complete day without penguins, and I got to see some fairy penguins which were super cute!!!
After that we set off towards the blue mountains; we stopped at a little town called Laure for lunch on the way and they had the most amazing sweet shop with over 1000 different kinds of sweets so I of course helped out and bought a bag full.
Then we drove up to the three sisters lookout which was just amazing!!! The mountains go on for miles and as you look out further into the distance is where you can really see the blue haze of the mountains. The reason they look blue is because most of the trees on the landscape are eucalyptus trees and as the sun beams down and evaporates water, the flowers and eucalyptus oil shines blue.
The three sisters themselves are a rock formation, which have an old aboriginal story behind them about three princesses whose dad turned them to stone to protect them from a battle.
They're really amazing and it was such an amazing view that you could just stand and look at for hours.
My camera can't ever capture some of these amazing views I'm being fortunate enough to see.
After that, we went further into the blue mountains where we got to go in a cable car over the top of the valley, then we went on the train down into the valley. The train was originally a mineshaft but is now the steepest railway track of 52degrees; it was more like a roller coaster than a train ride haha. To get back up we walked through the forest and then got a cable car back up to the top.
We had one more look at the beautiful scenery and then got back on the bus to head back to Sydney. On the way back we stopped at their Olympic stadium... Which was a stadium haha, although they do have a really cool display where there's hundreds of blue poles coming out the floor which have the names of everyone that helped out for the Olympics. They also have a floor display of all the gold, silver and bronze medals they won and a huge Olympic torch which is now a big water fountain.
After that, we got on a ferry and had a cruise around darling harbour then under the harbour bridge and past the Sydney opera house which was really pretty and a really nice end to the day.
The rest of the night I spent eating my sweets watching tv at Liesbeth's.
