So today, I'd booked a day trip out to Nimbin.
Byron bay is quite a laid back hippy kind of place but Nimbin is known for being even more laid back and is quite famous for the fact that cannabis is widely available there. So anyway I decided to go as its recommended in most travel guides and it just sounded really cool.
I got picked up at 10am by a big bus that was all spray painted and had reggae music blaring out. Yep, today's going to be a good day!!!
So, on the way to Nimbin we stopped off at a pub and had a drink and lots of free macadamia nuts, as apparently they're native to this area.
After that, we drove the rest of the way to Nimbin. As we were driving into Nimbin (which is literally one street) there was an old guy staggering down the middle of the road clearly in a complete world of his own off his face on something a lot stronger than cannabis, pretty creepy!
Myself and a few people went off together to see the 'delights' of Nimbin; we went to the 'museum of Nimbin' first and it was definitely one of the weirdest places I've ever been in my life. It just made no sense whatsoever and I'm guessing was literally a blank house and then they just let stoned people be 'creative' haha. Was pretty funny I guess.
As we walked out the back we were greeted by one old woman selling 'special' cookies and one lady with a huge bag of weed! Two girls I was with wanted to buy some cookies, and started to get their money together when some guys ran round the corner shouting 'taxi' and the old lady said "not today ladies" and ran away, haha, this place is clearly very very strange and I'm assuming taxi=police!!
We had a quick walk round the street where plenty of people were just stood there dancing to the music of life, I guess, and selling cookies and chocolates. The strangest thing was that there was families there looking round with their kids, not sure it's what I'd class as a family day out.
The girls I was with bought some cookies and then we got back onto our bus.
I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting of Nimbin; maybe a smaller Amsterdam, but it definitely wasn't anything extremely special. It was fun to visit but definitely a very very strange place.
Next stop on the bus was to a dam, where we would stop for a BBQ dinner. When we got there, the driver started making the food and everyone else went and sat in the sun overlooking the dam.
So anyway, I'm sat there just chilling out when I notice something black on my foot... It's rubbery looking and looks like it could be a piece of rubber that's come loose from my flip flop. I pulled it, and it snapped back like a piece of rubber... So I pulled it harder and it came off! After, a few seconds I looked at my hand and it was on my finger, each time I pulled it from one finger it got stuck to another. Eventually, I shook it free and then realised it was a bloody leech (no pun intended)
When I looked at my foot there was all blood dripping down it :( so I didn't stay sat in that grass very long haha. Freaked me out even though it was just a tiny thing and it took ages to stop bleeding.
Anyway... We ate lunch which was okay, and then went back on the bus. The last stop of the day was at a waterfall which was okay but not that big.
By the time we got back on the bus everyone was either stoned or tired so it was a pretty quiet journey back to Byron.
When I got back, me and Liesbeth just chilled out all evening and watched a couple of films.
