Be warned- this is going to be a loooong blog. Run away now if you want!
Up this morning at 8am for me, 9.30am for Carlos! But anyway, we decided we would go see the louvre today as it's only a 22 min walk. So we mapped it out and went on our way (btw I am only wearing thongs because my blisters are so bad). We got to the Louvre which is HUGE like a massive castle that stretches soooo long, and on the way saw that there is a bridge that you attach locks to, so did that. (So cliché and romantic of us)! We then went into the Louvre and realised the lines were oddly short and it's closed on Tuesdays! I don't even know what day it is while we're here!!
We decided to walk to the Eiffel Tower as it's only another half an hour away. On the way we get stopped actually I should say Carlos gets stopped, by people saying sign some petition, they then come to me and I look at the form and it's saying for you to give money, I say I have none and walk away but she actually followed me non stop and was screaming at me "just small money small money" I called Carlos and saw that he had signed the whole thing haha, he clicked and finally walked away too. Scam number 1 avoided!
We started to see the top of the Eiffel Tower and kept walking towards it, and found a map on a bus stop, stop there to take a pic and some guy stops and says oh look an picks up a gold ring and hands it to us, we say no not ours and then he says just keep it, it's good luck- then pesters us again for money! Carlos is waaaay too nice I just say no and walk away he keeps standing there! He needs lessons in being harsher.
The whole time we are walking along the Seine and it's extremely picturesque everything looks so beautiful. We finally reach the Eiffel Tower, and it's actually not as big as I imagined! We decided to walk up the stairs rather than take the lift as the line was outrageously long for the lift. We only went to the second floor and I swear it sways, quite a bit! It's a full on walk and Carlos the old man was fully puffed out haha. I actually think I would have been terrified at the top, I never realised until this trip that I have such a fear of heights!
After we got off the Eiffel Tower we bought some ice cream and just chilled at the bottom on some grass, it's all very beautiful and I could sit there for hours.
We then walked to the Arc de triumph, which is annoyingly being renovated or something so the top is a bit of an eyesore. The most amazing thing about the Arc de Triumph is actually the traffic! I watched for soooo long! It's crazy, people just pulling out in front of each other and tooting, I actually have no idea how they don't die!
By this stage it's 3.30pm and we've been pretty much on the move the whole time and know we have a 1.5 hour haul back home, so we walked along the Champs Élysées which is full of amazing shops and cafés. The French really do seem to just sit and have wine and coffee with smokes all afternoon. Or maybe it's just tourists, I'm not sure, but what a life!!
I dragged Carlos in and out of a few stores but he didn't seem too impressed, I am in love with H&M and so glad it's coming to Melbourne!
We walked home which literally took like an hour 15 and my legs are soooo sore. We worked out we probably walked for six solid hours today and that was with me in thongs the whole time!
We're contemplating doing a bit of a holiday change of plans and I'm looking into what we have already paid for and where we can change it to. All this sightseeing is awesome, but exhausting and there is part of me that would love to be at some beachy place away from all this crazy hustle and bustle.
Until tomorrow (when we might actually see the Louvre) xx
