After San Juan & Granada our next Nicaraguan location was a very welcome change of pace. We headed to Laguna de Apoyo, where our hostel was situated on the shore of an amazing crater lake. A transformed lakeside house recently made into a hostel, it looked like the kind of place you would find a Bond villain planning his next move, complete with floating docks & a catamaran. The area is also home to all kinds of wildlife including monkeys & bats & on several occasions we even thought we had seen a new breed of water dwelling puppy but it turned out to be Alice having a swim! We did pretty much nothing for a couple of days but swim & sunbathe but on one morning we did get up at 5.30am & kayak out to the centre of the lake to watch the sunrise which was beautiful! The eveings were pretty quiet (finally) so we just cooked & read & watched whichever TV channel happened to be in English so we also got mildly addicted to Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch may be the greatest name ever, sorry Inglebert Humperdinck).
