Hello!
Well today I was having a bit of a funny five minutes and could not sleep at all past 3am so I got up early and decided to explore Darwin by foot. I walked to this Wharf place but that wasn't overly interesting so then I walked along the coast to various beaches, which are absolutely beautiful. So peaceful especially at that time in the morning!
On the way I stopped at the Botanic Gardens, where Darwin Festival is currently being held. They have lots of massive lanterns in the trees as well as rustic stalls where I imagine people can buy drinks/food etc. Really colourful and pretty.
I also went to the Northern Territory museum which was quite interesting as museums go! Had bits about aboriginal times and then more recent things like cyclone tracy. There was also a massive boat shed with different types of boats from around Darwin - full size - and boats from nearby Indonesia.
When I reached Lake Alexander (man-made lake where I was assured there are no crocodiles!) I decided that I had walked enough and I got a bus back to the city centre. Amazingly the bus cost $2 - equivalent to one pound - and it was valid for the whole day for as many journeys as I liked and as long as my journey wasnt more than 3 hours away! Bargain!
Got back to the hostel at about 12 and have just led in the sun since, been good not to snooze so hopefully will sleep through the night tonight!
Missing you all! XXXXX
