After a brief return to Hanoi we decided to move further south to escape the cold weather. In order to break up the trip we chose to stop at Hue. To get to Hue we got the sleeper bus which took 14hours. We weren't too sure what to expect as we had heard some funny stories about sleeper buses. Apart from a broken bunk bed and a not too nice smelling toilet, the journey was ok and managed to get about 6/7 hours sleep!
Hue was the ancient capital during the Nguyen dynasty, 17th - 19th century. The City is known for its historic monuments and Citadel. Unfortunately due to the weather and mine and Alices lack of interest we didn't get any further than the Citadel - which houses the emporers forbided purple city. This was his pleasure haven during his reign and historically was home to the concubines and only unuchs where allowed to enter. This, unfortunately is not the current state and i saw not one concubine.
During our visit we stayed at the Jade hotel near the city centre, this really was the highlight of our stop as the room was beautiful (hot water too!!) and the staff couldn't do enough to please us, very sweet!
Still seeking the sun, we booked a bus the following day to take us to Hoi An, 200km further south.
