Today, me , Fenn and Penille took a bus to Nimbin. This is just a tiny village but has become really popular with tourists ever since backpackers started turning up in the 1970's and a student festival (aquarius) was held here promoting alternative lifestyles and eco-living.
The village has now become hippy central and we had to go and check it out coz its pretty famous now. As soon as we got off the bus all you can smell is a strong wiff of weed, its absolutely everywhere, even being smoked outside the police station.
The place is just really bizarre, all the buildings are multi-coloured and promote the use of cannabis and there are signs supporting the cannabis law reform. The weirdest bit was the museum which is a shrine to everything to do with drugs and when we were in there, dealers were set up at the tables, clearly selling pot and mushrooms to the public!!
We did a small tour around the area, visiting an environmentally friendly community centre and a candle factory-random. It was such a weird day.
In the evening we got our free meals and then went to check out a cinema we'd heard about near Fenn's hostel. it was another hippy sort of place but it was awesome, there were no shoes allowed and all the seats were comfy cushions on the floor, I nearly fell asleep had it not been for the extremely wacky art house film that was playing.
