Hello hello hello.
I've been a bit busy the last week though it's been fun and now worth while talking about.
The weather the past week in Denmark hasn't been as nice as 33 degree Australia. We've had rain and rain and more rain and 15 degrees which means we're finally hitting Winter. This will be ok though because eventually SNOW will come. Hopefully before I leave.
On Tuesday after school I rushed to the bus with Ami-Lee (the new Kiwi exchange student at my school) because the next day we were going to Sweden together! We spent the afternoon just chatting about exchange and the difference and similarities between Australia and New Zealand. It was nice getting to know her and laughing about weird things from home again. Then another new exchange student (Jasmine from Italy) came over and we started dancing around to Gangam Style and taking silly photos. We had a nice dinner and then fell asleep since we had to be out of the house by 5:15 the next morning. It was sweet being with the girls since I hadn't really gotten to know any of them that well at the last AFS camp. It was also cute watching them speak Danish since I remember being in the exact same place. Saying as much as I could and personally I was impressed, they can speak and understand a lot more than I could at 2 months.
Wednesday the 3 of us grudingly woke up at 4:45 and slowly got dressed. I grabbed my things and hobbled down the stairs and somehow fell down the last 3 or so. Then Ami-Lee's host dad came in and said "did you fall?" in Danish and I think I just replied "yeah." Too early, too early indeed. After some travelling later we were on the big ferry that takes you to Guteborg with some other exchange students from another area of Denmark. The trip was nearly 4 hrs so we all got to chat a bit and look around. The weather was a tad average but luckily it didn't rain until we left. We had 4 hrs before we had to catch the ferry home and so we all went shopping. I bought a new wallet but that was about it, things are very similar to Denmark from the shopping perspective. Before long we were sitting on the ferry home tired and worn out. We were going to get back at around 7pm and so I watched some shows that were playing on the tv and played cards with some people from our group. At the end Jasmine and I looked at the shopping section of the boat and were smelling perfume. She kindly sprayed me with Justin Bieber and so for the rest of the night I had the feeling someone had just wiped sugar on my neck and it wouldn't go away. MMMMMM. Finally, we were back on Danish soil and heading home. I got back at around 9:30pm, ate food, took a shower, txted Aske to tell him I was still alive and then fell asleep.
Thursday I heard the reliable knock on the door at 7am from my host Dad and woke up with too much energy. I went downstairs, said a quick hi to my host parents before they went to work and then ate some breakfast with Sofie before heading back to school. I had 3 modules and the 2nd free so I wrote my English essay with Aske and his friend because they also had a free. That night I was going to the theatre to watch a play called "Jeppe på bjerget." It's a Danish classic and it seemed like half the school was going so I was looking forward to it. It's about a man who gets abused by his wife and is consequently an alcoholic. He get's pretty wasted one day and gets tricked by some crazies into believing that he is the master of this fancy manor. Of course he goes crazy with power and so the people who tricked him then get him wasted again and throw him back out onto the street just as he was before. Then there was a break so everyone could stretch their legs. Honestly, by this point I was tired and couldn't really get myself to listen to the second part so I was just watching. It went along the lines of him getting punnished by a judge and then getting hung naked from the ceiling after believing he was going to die. Yes completely naked. I wasn't even surprised and just went with it. All in all it was ok. It was a modern version of the old play so they did have a transvestite thing going on and it reminded me of the Rocky Horror Picture Show but no Danes have seen that. It's another experience to put down on the list!
Friday was a good day and a short one with 2 classes. It was the school's birthday so they got every class to make a cake and pick a theme. My class chose the Olympic theme and so we decided to make the 5 Olympic rings. 5 different people made 5 different flavoured cakes and then another 5 people from class went down to the local bakery to cover each cake with coloured marzipan. I think our class went all out and the final product looked really really good. Since all the cakes were going to be judged we dressed up in sports gear and had flags from different countries on the rings and printed out copies on our stomachs. I had the big Aussie flag as a cape and I was supposedly a badmington player. When the judges came to sit down someone played the Olympic anthem through a megaphone and overall we did a great job. Unfortunately, a 3rd class chose the same theme as us and took their cake to the next level. They had people from their class swimming in the fountain behind the school and then they stood on podiums. Yah, definitely didn't think of that. They got 1st place and we got 2nd but we were all really proud of ourselves. It was a fun experience since our school does nothing like that on their birthday. They also had entertainment while all the cakes were being judged and if you weren't doing that you could go around tasting other classes cakes and seeing how much they dressed up. It was really sweet since it got everyone involved.
That Friday night it was a birthday party for two girls in my class. It was only a few people from class so it was very cosy. We ate tacos played trivial pursuit in Danish so poor Nina pretty much had to answer all the questions on her own. Towards the end we also watched a bit of Brother Bear and got onto the topic of all the good Disney movies there are. By the end of the night the last 3 days had hit me and I was quite tired. Then it was the weekend!
At this point in time, I have around 2 and a half months left of exchange and we all know it's not long at all. Honestly, I'm a little scared about it. Maybe very scared. I'm not ready to say goodbye to people. It's bad flying over but you always have the comforting thought that you will be going home in 11 months time. It's not the same flying home because it's a fact that there is no promising you'll see anyone again anytime soon or ever again. Then again I'm getting ready to go home. I miss being in the place where I fit in properly. Where I can go to school everyday and know it's actually getting me somewhere, get a job and be in the surroundings I know I belong in. I want to go home and go to the beach, complain about how hot it is, learn to drive, complain about homework and then complain about how time goes to quickly, play netball, eat dinner while watching modern family. I guess i'm just starting to miss the routine and although I know it won't be the same when I go back, the fact it's right in front of me is distracting. Though I shall keep POSITIVE THOUGHTS and make the most of the last 2 months.
What's coming up.
Friday is the gymfest and the theme is "we love the ocean" or something like that. So I need a costume, any ideas are appreciated. No mermaids though.....just no. Next week we start holidays and my family and I are going to Bornholm, where my host Dad lived when he was little. Then we're taking a detour back to Sweden on the way back. I'm really excited for that! Then the weekend after I'm going on my mini exchange to Silkeborg. I have just gotten details about the family and they seem lovely and they also have 6 rabbits! I hope they like me. After that we're practically in November. Woah....we'll discuss that later.
Yah yah, have my thoughts gotten boring yet?
Hope everyone is doing well xox

Joann Rego Not boring at all Alex :) keep having a blast - go back to the beginning and think about what your expectations, hopes and dreams of this experience were, make sure all the boxes are ticked, you have 2 months to double check :) ENJOY!! As for dress up ideas....I have nothing other than something Australian.....can you dress up as coral??!! Bright and colourful :) xox
