I am very annoyed as I just wrote this blog out, but because the internet is so slow I didn't realise my mouse was over 'log out' when I clicked, and I lost it all, so here goes again.
Well it has alraedy been mad! So much stuff has happened since Bangkok that sitting here writing it down I can't remember it all!
My travel buddies are:
Alice - from Belgium (brilliant English... much better than my French)
Ewan - from England (Who's name provides some entertainment as the Thais struggle to get their mouths round it... Pompey supporter... shame!)
Rose - from Wales (accent provides some entertainment, in a good way of course! Mum, you'd get on well with Rose)
Amelia - from England (LAUGHS. alot. I'd like to think it has something to do with my brilliant humor, but probably not.)
I failed to mention that when we were in Bangkok we went to the Royal Palace which was unbelievable. Kind of disgusted at the old King for basically saying: "you know what? I'm not sure I'm all that impressed by this... build me another one please, but a bit different." Fussy.
We are living in an Eco house, so it has provided some experiences! Washing clothes is done by hand in the back garden in biiiig metal dishes. It has certainly been enlightening... thanks Mum. The rooms are cooled by fanblade, no air con, so it is very hot. But that is all part of the experience! The food is vegetarian unless we are out at a restaurant for lunch, where the food is all paid for. Myself, Amelia and Rose ate aproper chilli yesterday, not any of your half arsed cop out stuff... nice...... but very very hot. On Monday afternoon (after my last blog) we met Alice, the newest addition to our group, from Belgium. Then we headed out on the truck we use, we dont actually sit inside the van, we sit in the back (an experience in itself) to go make some bracelets at this small stall that a family has in the middle of nowhere in their garden. I look very beachy already before even heading there. On Monday night the local primary school kids came in their traditional outfits and threw a welcoming party for us. It was amazing. It involved bamboo and tom tom dances and then getting us up to dance with them with flowers they gave us around our necks. Me and Amelia were talking as it happened, and we think we were witnessing a future lady-boys discovery moment. Pretty certain.
On tuesday we went to Ayuttaya. It was beautiful. It was the old capital of the country before Bangkok. It's surreal to go through and see old ruins poking up here and there. The old temples are fantastic. Check out the photos when I upload them in a bit. We went Elephant riding which was different to how I expected. While we all agreed we were glad we can now say we have had a ride on an elephant, we wouldn't do it again because they weren't treated very well. Neither were the ones in the Elephant 'sanctuary'. We had lunch at a restaurant with low tables so we had to sit down on the floor to eat which was wierd. We went to 'Tesco Lotus' (I am was dissapointed to see their global reach) to get some supplies for the trekking week. We visited another temple
Today we went to a temple where we saw an absoloutely huuuuuuuuge Buddha lying down. His toe nails were a bit bigger than my head. Stupidly incredible. We learned about the 'Bang Rachan' heroes at the Bang Rachan memorial and museum. Basically the Burmese attacked Thailand and one of the towns first attacked had 100 villagers. The Burmese sent 1,000 to slaughter them. Although the Thais eventually all died, they held off for an entire 5 months! But the Thais ended up winning the war.
We are now in actual Sing Buri town, its a bit hectic! and boiling! It has been around 37-38 degrees so far. Koh Samet (the island we are heading to on week 4 has been getting temp of about 40 degrees!)
Well I will update you again soon when I can. Keep safe.
