Hey people!
I've only just heard about this, after seeing one of my friends using it in Bangkok, so I am goign to recap over the last few days as well.
We arrived in Bangkok at 8:00 am on friday and it.was.BOILING! Straight away we got a sense of the humidity. The hour long taxi ride to the hotel went by in a flash. The Royal Hotel was kind of impressive. As expected it was a little run down but it had great facilities and great food! We did a bit of swimming and saw some.... characters, by the pool.... One of which didn't seem to hide the fact he wanted to check out Amelia's 'character'... but ended up accidentally catching a bit of mine as we swapped places when he wasn't looking. Kaosan road = mental! absoloutely mad! People offering the bizzarest of things from all different directions. I was annoyed I didn't know the Thai for "No, I do not have any need for a small wooden frog that I can scrape the back of with a stick so it makes a wierd noise"... that would have come in handy a few times. We experienced the wonders of Tuktuks, especially on the way to a Thai boxing match, we felt a bit ripped off as it was kids not adults... but my god they still went for it, which was kind of disturbing. There were baby elephants in Kaosan road as well, which were a lot more hairy than expected. The food stalls made fantastic meals for about 1 pound. I've also had a dabble in the world of bartering, and found I'm not that bad.
We left Bangkok yesterday on the 21st at 2:00 and are noe here in Sing Buri. Off on a walk around the area when we came across this internet cafe. So I will be back here to put up pictures soon!
