Today was a journey day.
...and a long one - 7 hours from Addo to Prince Albert in the Karoo area.
The roads here are fast straight and long so they're not very taxing - that is until we reached Oudtshoorn and the road started to rise. Then suddenly the tarmac ran out and we were on a gravel road, much like the Jeerburg Pass the day before. Only this time it got steeper and steeper and the cliff edge more and more sheer - then we realised we were on one of the most celebrated mountain passes in the world - the Swartberg Pass...and in a Toyota Corolla!
I made hand-grip marks on the steering wheel as I drove for the next 24 kilometres in first gear - the road was too rough to go any faster - but I have to say it was an amazing experience with some mind-numbing scenery on a simply enormous scale.
Then we reached Prince Albert to find a festival in full swing celebrating the 250th anniversary of the town.
