Woke this morning to broken cloud and about 21degrees so we spent an hour on the lawn soaking up the rays between clouds, then down to Bertha's for breakfast - and then it rained! A very humbling day. We visited Robben Island today - the place where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated. We drove into Cape Town to the V&A Waterfront - absolutely brilliant. Shops restaurants and bars as far the eye could see - breakfast in the harbour with, amongst other delights, a blackberry smoothie that you had to drink with a spoon! Then onto Robben Island. What a day - up at around 9:30am - bliss to get a lie-in - then down to brunch in Simon's Town - Eggs Florentine overlooking the harbour - then off to Boulders Beach to see the penguin colony - fascinating - they're everywhere - and still breeding so lots of nests tucked away on the fynbos - I'll let you look that up yourselves. Then back to cocktails on the veranda overlooking False Bay - my Dad'd never believe it.

Arrived knackered after a 12 hour flight - but we're on holiday so who cares. Picked up the hire car and drove to Simons Town - through several townships en route - what a country of contrasts - serious money and serious poverty - cheek by jowl. Way to go Virgin - they say get there early to the airport - so we did - 4 hours early - and managed to get the last two emergency exit seats - and they even made it buy-one-get-one-free - now all we've got to do is kill 4 hours in the bar - yay!!!
