I spent a fair bit of time talking to Sean this morning about all the things that were making me a little less than awesome to be around at the moment and it definitely helped. I feel alot better now about trying to socialise and hanging out with people a little more. I forget sometimes that I can't just sit inside my own head.
Today is our bike tour around Hoi An. We have a private tour with a guide which should make it a little cooler but I couldn't help thinking it would be so much better to just rent a bike and do it yourself. We were taken around town and out into the countryside. He would stop on request if we wanted to take photos which was great, though we didn't take too many. There's only so many photos of rice paddies and bison that you can take. Despite having a guide we didn't really get told anything about what we were seeing. I feel you would definitely be better off skipping the tour and doing it yourself, even if you get lost because that's the best part of travel.
We stopped at a farm where some locals were watering vegetables and herbs. They do this with two watering cans at a time, hanging from a plank of wood that is draped over their shoulders. We then each had an opportunity to fill the watering cans with water and walk around giving it a go. Some of us were definitely better at it than others.
The second half of our tour saw us getting on a boat, which helped us to save our legs a little. Although it was nice to see some scenary from on the river there was nothing really that exciting to see. Our boat docked back in Hoi An and we all got back on our bikes and were off back to the hotel. Ngoc showed us a Banh My place on the way he recommended that we go back to for lunch.
Banh My is essentially a form of sandwich in a baguette. The shop itself has a similar set up to subway, you order what you want and they create it for you, with less of the hassle of the type of cheese and salads you want. I ordered the BBQ Banh My. I am pretty sure it was beef, and it was amazing. I added a little chili to it which made it that much better.
After lunch we walked around Hoi An for a little longer and I decided I was eventually going to buy another pair of pants to wear on my travels. One isn't enough, especially when trying to dress modestly while trekking. Sometimes skirts aren't going to cut it! I had a look around and found a few things I liked and shopped around for prices. I will buy tomorrow though as I have no money.
Back to the hotel for a dip in the pool. Today is Scott's birthday!! As we are relaxing by the pool the hotel staff bring a cake and candles out for us to celebrate. They had literally taken all his details from his passport and had them iced onto the cake. Only in Asia!
For Scott's celebratory birthday dinner Ngoc took us to Lantern Town. Another restaurant that is a little up there in price, but you really do get what you pay for in Asia. Ngoc had brought a surprise cake along and we had a second round of cake and birthday songs. There was a little bit of cake left so I went back for seconds, the Ngoc gave me more cream. Apparently I like cream. Hannah suggested he was trying to fatten me up. Ngoc did say that I was slim, much slimmer than Vietnamese. But I think perhaps he is a little deluded.
After dinner we all head over the bridge in search of drinks. We got bombarded by pamphlets for all the different bars and eventually settled on Tiger Tiger. We were the first ones there.
You can definitely have a great time at Tiger Tiger but based on our experience I wouldn't go back. There was something iffy about the cocktails and the two that had them ended up sick. Still had a great night playing card games and casual drinks though.
We made plans for the beach, leaving at 8.30am and booked in a cooking class through Ngoc aswell. It should be an awesome day :)
