Following breakfast we were back at the hotel ready for a 9.30 departure for our private snorkling adventure!
Our first stop was Tri Nguyen Island, a fishing village that until recently hadn't been visited by tourists. We took a tour around the island to see how they live. I was surprised at the high standard of living. I suppose even 10 years of tourism can have a massive impact on out of the way places.
We end up in floating baskets to get back to the boat. Definitely an interesting experience, as you feel as though you are going to fall out the entire way. Our lady asked us if we wanted a coconut to drink. Ngoc had instructed us to say no. On refusing our lady essentially requested a tip and gave us a sad story about how she had been widowed for 15 years - except her oldest child was 8 and youngest 3. So that doesn't really work out. The downside of tourism where locals try and rip money from you however they can.
After a quick stop at their aquarium we were back on the boat and off to the reef for some snorkling!
Unfortunately for me I'm retarded and I couldn't get my mask tight enough so it kept filling up with water. The reef itself isn't overly impressive either, though perhaps with clearer skies it would be.
The level of pollution is incredible though. Spotted a few new kinds of bottle fish (plastic bottles), couple of cuttlefish (sanitary pads) and some jelly fish (plastic bags). Really unfortunate because it would be a little more special without these additions.
We spent most of our time on the boat, getting some sun, talking crap and napping. Finally it was lunch time and our delightful boat chef cooked us an array of seafood, chicken, beef and veggies with heaps of fruit to follow. Since I was expecting something simple like sandwiches I was impressed! It was all delicious!
Around 3pm we head back to the mainland, get back to our hotel and prepare for dinner. Hannah and I are sharing a room so we decide to head out for a walk along the beach. There were literally russians everywhere!
Back to the hotel for a 6.30 pick up for dinner. Ngoc takes us to Lac Canh, a local Vietnamese BBQ restaurant. We are givena miniature coal fire BBQ and a selection of meats and you pop them on and cook them yourself. It was delicious and felt like a truely authentic food experience.
Following dinner we decided it was time we all went out for a drink. Our first stop was Booze Cruise. It wasn't overly busy but the staff were confident, friendly and are there to make sure you have a good time. We started off with Jam Jars. They had a buy 2 get 1 free offer that was far to amazing to pass up. Having finished mine the little alcoholic that I am polished off Mariela's as well. She isn't a big drinker and didn't want to finish hers.
After a couple of rounds of beer pong snd flip cup we were off down the street looking for the next place.
We were handed a flier for Why Not? bar which had been a place Scott wanted go. We ended up at Oasis. Free mojitos for girls on the dancefloor, and buy one get one free vodka redbulls. Naturally we were the only ones dancing.
Eventually the bar filled up and more people joined me on the dancefloor. I ended up getting flung around the dancefloor by a guy from Belarus. I was having trouble not slipping over in my thongs so I decided to take them off.
Finally, as all good things do, the night came to an end and it was time for me to leave. The last thing I remember was going back to collect my shoes and them not being there. Someone stole my thongs!
Definitely the best day I had had so far, but I was paying for it the next day.
