Today is going to be a hard day. I wake up to the unmistakeable taste and smell of alcohol. I had definitely overdone it last night. Hannah amd Mariela are up early to do some morning exercise but I am definitely not keen to move.
When the girls get back I have finally managed to struggle my way out of bed and we head down to the beach for some relaxation time. I can't stay in the water for very long. The current moves in two directions and plays absolute havoc on my stomach. I end up just catching some sun instead.
Had a couple of croissants on the way back to the hotel. They are the most amazing croissants I have had in South East Asia!! Buttery and soft and deliciously amazing. At 31000VND each they were definitely worth it.
Today we head to Thap Ba Spa for mineral mud baths and hot spring delight. Amusingly you have to shower before getting into the pool of mud. It definitely makes sense when you think about it, but it seems so bizarre to get clean before coating yourself in mud! The mud was a lot thinner than I was expecting. We sat for a while thowing mud at each other and generally just having jolly old time.
Once you're done in the mud you have to bake in the sun to let the mud dry and minerals soak into your skin. It takes a while, even in the hot Vietnamese sun! Then you jump in the shower. This is the most beautiful bit for sure, trying to remove the mud that has made its way into every crack and crevice. I dare you to try and look away when you catch someone in the act. It looks so disgusting but is so intriguing at the same time.
Next stop is the mineral hot spring where you get your own private spa. It was delicious! We had this lovely moment when a few petals flew off a nearby tree into the spa. It just reminded me of peaceful moments in movies and it just seemed to make it for me.
I thought this was the last part of the day, but then you move into a hot spring pool! As I was hungover being completely submerged in warm water wasn't the best feeling but I am sure it would have been amazing otherwise. The gang and I spent a lot of time Russian watching. I was starting to realise how incredibly odd their bodies are. They all seem to have really tiny legs but massive middles. We put it down to eating too many potatos and drinking too much vodka.
Made a move around 5pm and then we were off for our final dinner in Nha Trang. Ngoc took us to Lanterns for dinner. It was beautiful. I loved the lanterns hanging from the ceiling and the general ambience it created. I ordered a seafood curry and it was delicious! It had a slight spice to it but it was masked by the coconut milk which was perfect for me!!
Finally we were off to catch the overnight train to Da Nang. We ended up in a 6 person sleeper carriage which Ngoc was confused about, he thought we were in a 4. The couples were lumped in one cabin while the rest of the party cabin stayed together and had Ngoc with us along with one random who got on the train around midnight. Arriving in our room there were random packages hanging about. Mariela decided it looked like cocaine, and so the cocaine saga began.
Janaka had shottied the top bunk but soon regretted it. Top bunk was tiny and the aircon was so high the top was freezing. He said the next day he literally dreamed that he was in Antartica.
I was pretty comfortable in my middle spot, I didn't feel the cold of the aircon and didn't mind too much when the aircon got turned down and the cabin heated up either.
We arrived in Da Nang around 8am and carried onto Hoi An via mini bus, which took about an hour. On check in at the hotel I immediately take the single room as I was incredibly keen for some alone time.
Today had been an amazing day! Although I was worried about the 6 sleeper cabin it didn't work out anywhere near as badly as I had first imagined.
Now, to enjoy Hoi An!
