Oh my goodness! In a couple days it will be September meaning I will have been here for almost two and a half months! It's a strange feeling; like it's gone by so fast yet when I think about when I first arrived it feels like so long ago.
Since I only have about eight hours of class a week I thought I would join the school's soccer team. It's very different from when I used to play. We play on half the field with eight players on each team. I wish it was more competitive but considering I'm so out of shape and haven't played soccer in four years it's probably a good thing. It's pretty difficult to communicate on the field because of the language barrier but I know it will be a great way to learn and make some Argentine friends.
Racheal and I went to San Isidro, a very upscale neighborhood, the other day and it was so nice. We picked out our future homes and found, well sort of snuck into, a park that will be our project. Like a lot of things here it could be a really nice place but it's completely run down, with a lot of graffiti and broken beer bottles.
On our way back we were waiting at the train station when a train came by with no people except 5 men, two of whom were standing in the open door of the train with shotguns. Then the train stopped at the platform and one of the men with shotguns led three of the men with bags into a building while the other stood in front of the group of people waiting for the train with his gun ready. The other men then came back and the train left. Strange.
On Friday night our school hosted international night for all the students at the school. The exchange students all set up a booth about their culture. It was strange because we were encouraged to bring alcohol. Our advisor, Pamela, a five foot tall adorable Argentine woman, suggested we bring a beer bong. Of course the guys form my group made one and brought it. It was quite the hit. It was really fun but extremely weird that a school would put on that kind of event. It would never happen in the states!
