This past weekend we went to Iguazzu Falls and it was absolutely gorgeous! I can't really descibe how amazing it was but I will put up pictures later when I upload them onto my computer. Not having internet at my home or school makes these things much more difficult.
We left on Thursday and took a bus for 14 hours but it was actually not too bad because the seats completely recline. Although on my way to get on the bus I almost got robbed. The station to get on busses for long trips is in a bad part of townand it wasn't crowded initially so I had my back pack on my back(becasue in crowded areas you keep it in front of you) and my other bag with anything valuable in my small bag in front of me. I was walking and it started to get crowded and I heard my bag unzip. I turned around and no one was there. The only things I had the pocket they openned were a book and a pop. You definitely have to be really careful with your valuables here, aparently, George Bushs daughter was here with secret service and got pick pocketed, they're good. A girl in my class got robbed twice in one day. However if you keep your bag in front of you with your wallet and other valuable things in the bottom you should be fine.
One thing I find very frustrating here is the money situation. Because of inflation the metal for the coins is more valuable than the actually value of the coin. Therefore, the government has stopped making them, causing this city to run out of coins, which you need to ride the bus. I usually have to trade people at lunch for their coins because I ride the bus to school. However I have starting walking which helps but I still don't walk at night. Also, 100 peso bills are pretty much worthless because no one hase change. However, thats what you get out of the ATM so you have to search fro someone with change. This morning we had an appointment to start the VISA process and I got lost trying to meet my friends and just had to take cab because I was running late. The cab driver only had 30 pesos in change and the cab ride cost 30 pesos and all I had was a 100 peso bill. Of course none of the news stands had change so I had to just take what change he had and give him my 100. Very frustrating. I could have made it there for 1.1 pesos had I not gotten lost and taken the subway but instead I paid 70.
I signed up for may classes today and am excited because I only have classes Monday through Wednesday. This will be very nice for traveling around with four day weekends every weekend.
Choa!
