People usually say that adjusting to new place that is so different from home is difficult. However I have found it surprisingly easy. Although EVERYTHING is different; from the language, the food, and the customs, to living in a city of 13 million compared to a town of 10,000. I think it´s the small things that are hard to get used to; such as guarding your things from getting stolen, not smilling and saying hello to people are you pass, and being expected to give your opinion about abortion and religion in class (I dont think they believe in political correctness here, which to be honest, is nice and makes conversations more interesting).
The major thing going here is the swine flu outbreak. People are wearing masks and they have extended the schools´winter breaks, not ours though. When you enter my school however you are bombarded with signs and posters about washing your hands and covering your cough. A few friends and I went into a club the other day to watch tango and the door man had antibacterial for all of us as we entered. Very interesting.
I like my class but 5 hours straight is beginning to get a bit long. I´m excited for the ten day break we have coming up so we can do some traveling.
Yesturday, some friends and I went to May Park, where the mothers of the children who dissapeared during the Cummunist Dictatorship of the 70´s march for their return and memory. We were able to learn about the history of the government of the last century and it was very interesting. I would love to explain it all but I doubt I have the room.
I´m very glad I choose to come here and can´t wait to experience everything this country has to offer.
Chao!
