Well after about a week and I´m pretty sure scaring my parents, I have found internet! I arrived here last Friday and am loving it! My school, my host mom, the nightlife, the shopping, and all the new friends I am meeting. I have learned so much about Mate (Mah- tay), the official drink of Argentina, how to use the bus system here, how to be EXTREMELY careful crossing the street(pedestrians dont have the right of way and the will hit you, its true, someone i know saw it happen), everything that happened in the country in the 90s, and how it feels to be the minority. It is definitely a different place but I like it very much, and I think it will only get better when I can actually understand what everyone around me is saying. My host mom is a very sweet 67 year old woman and she loves to help me with everything. I try to help but she won´t have it. She has 4 children and 9 grandkids and is very close with all of them. Her grandson who is the same age as me came over for dinner and he is very nice. One of my goals is to make friends with Argentines and not just Americans so knowing him will be wonderful.
I am stil getting used to all the little differences here such as, flagging down the bus and kissing people on the cheek when you first meet them. I thought the latter would be really wierd but I kind of like it, it´s more personal than a handshake. I will right in more detail tomorrow because I need to get home for dinner... at 830.
Chao!
