I'm baaaack!
Well, things on the technology side of things are definitely looking up! I've had a whole afternoon of connectivity and the only thing I can think of to whine about is that there is no plugin in the area where there's Internet. I got a good 2 hours out of my battery and then it was back up to the room. Luckily there's an awesome view of the beach and the the green area of the hotel from where I sit. It's not a total loss!
OK, enough whining... onto the business of what I've been up to for the last two days. Hmmm, where to start. Well, we did go on that cruise of the bay I was telling you about on the last blog. It was great! The view was incredible because you could see the whole bay from the boat. Acapulco is so much more impressive from the water. I took way too many pictures, and I'm sorry, but I didn't sort through them before posting. I guess you'll just have to click quickly!
There was even a comedy/singing show on board. They weren't the most incredible act ever, a lot of lip-synching, but they were funny. In fact, they even got me involved in the act! I was the "other man" and I got paraded around the stage and play the part. It was pretty funny. Don Jorge took a couple of pics of my nautical debut!
From there we came back, had a quick dinner, and crashed. We got in about midnight. Don Jorge got up the next morning to go fishing out in the open ocean. If you have to ask if I went, you don't know me very well. Doña Chuchys and I headed for Starbucks after I went to the gym for a run. We had a great time chatting about how things are going for the family and how things were probably going for Don Jorge. About that time we got a call and lo and behold, the man landed a swordfish! The only problem was that he forgot his fishing license in the hotel. So we cut our coffee short, and headed for the room and then to the nearest bus.
The bus trip was excruciating. The guy went slower than I do in the snow and come to find out (much too late) that the route wasn't the one we were looking for. It went through town, and we wanted to stay on the waterfront. For those of you that have experienced the "helpfulness" of the Mexican culture, we were instructed from about 5 different people on how the bus was going to travel. We were told everything from that it would eventually pass right by where we were going, to that we weren't going to see the waterfront until the return trip. Needless to say we didn't have time to find out, so we got off the bus and hailed a cab.
10 minutes later we were dockside taking pictures of the biggest swordfish I have ever seen. It weighed 114 pounds and had a length of almost 11 feet. You can check out the photos if you're having a hard time imagining such a beast. Don Jorge had the captain radio ahead to a taxidermist and they are going to have the beast stuffed so they can mount it.
We headed to the city center for a celebratory ice cream, and then home for more celebrations with beer and a huge meal. It was great. After the meal reality hit and I knew I had to get some homework done. I got my "welcome to school" letter written, and sent some necessary e-mails. And here we are. I think we're headed to go watch a show where these guys are crazy enough to jump from a cliff ledge into a small ravine in the ocean.... with torches! It was incredible last time, and I doubt that this time will be any different.
More Later...
