Greetings from Acapulco!
Sorry it's taken so long to post, I've been too busy in Xalapa, and now that we're here in Acapulco, I haven't been able to get connected. It's been kind of a pain. Enough complaining, let me get you caught up.
The last few days in Xalapa have been busy. I've been trying to get my homework done as much as I can (I know, it sounds horrible, but I didn't want to have to do it here in Acapulco!!!) and of course we've been going out, going to movies, and pretty much taking it easy. So, it hasn't left me with a whole lot of time.
We left Xalapa Saturday at 5:45AM to head here to Acapulco. I guess I was half asleep when Don Jorge woke me, because I guess I said, "Where are you going? Do you have to go?" and soon after I was awake enough to remember that he came to wake me, but not about what I guess I said. We all had a good laugh and we were off.
The trip went fast for being over 8 hours. Doña Chuchys didn't sleep much the night before, so she took the back seat in the Liberty and let me be the co-pilot. It was a huge honor, because it's a full time job, and a serious one at that. It was my job to watch out for unlabeled topes (think: huge speed bump), collect the correct change for the 12 toll booths along the way (which cost a total of about $50, one way!), keep Don Jorge well fed and with something to drink as well as keep him company (the easy part) so he doesn't nod off.
We had a great time! The trip went really fast. He's got great stories, and I really trust his advice, so we normally talk about really deep subjects. Needless to say, I have a lot of respect for the man and I hope to someday be half the man that he is.
We got in about 2 in the afternoon, road weary and ready to rest. We checked into the hotel Emporio Acapulco (5 stars, incredible!!!!) and headed up to our suite. The place is equipped with 3 beds in two bedrooms, two full baths, a kitchen, 2 balconies with views of the ocean, 2 televisions and a partridge in a pear tree. We got unpacked and then crashed. I slept what felt like 15 minutes for a full hour and a half.
When I got around to moving again we went to look for a fishing boat for Don Jorge. He's fanatic about fishing, and had a certain boat in mind. So, we grabbed a bus and headed toward the marina. Once there, we wandered around for a bit and found our guy. After getting things square with him, we headed to the grocery store to get drinks, snacks, and enough food for the week. Having a full kitchen sure makes things less expensive in the long run!
From there, we headed to the brand new mall across the street and decided to head to the movies. We saw License to Marry (I think that's what it's called in English) in a VIP theatre. It was pretty cool! For $9USD we got huge leather reclining seats, a full menu with crepes, sandwiches, drinks including a full bar, and the regular theatre fare with a WAITER who came right to our seats to serve us. It was so nice I almost fell asleep! The movie was OK, but the funniest part was when there were very specific America-centric jokes. Me and 1 other gringo were the only ones laughing. It was too bad, and I had a lot of explaining to do when we got out of the theatre because they both wanted to know what was so stinking funny!
When we got home, Don Jorge and I sat out on the balcony for awhile talking about whatever, having a tequila and making plans for today. Dona Chuchys came out for a bit, and then we all went in and hung out for awhile.
I slept sooooo well (mostly because I had the AC cranked!) and went jogging on the beach and then to the gym with Don Jorge. Then it was a quick breakfast and down pool side to sleep, soak in some rays, swim, read, and generally do nothing (I hope you now see why I wanted to get my homework done BEFORE).
Tonight we'll be heading on a mini cruise and tour of the bay and sunset, and then off to do some shopping if we get back in time. It should be fun. I'm really not looking forward to coming home, but then again, I need to get a lot done, and although you probably won't believe me, I miss you guys...so I doubt there's much of a choice.
So, don't be mean, send me a message board message, or even an (dare I say it) e-mail. It really makes my day to hear what's going on with you all!
More Later...
