Today we made our way south with our destination of Dumfries for an overnight stay.
I drove for most of the day as Bill (uncle ) was tired. What I have learnt:
- the roads are very narrow
- auto wipers are awesome ESP in Scotland
We went down south to New Galloway then south to Newton Stewart. We stopped on the way at Clatteringshaws forest wildlife centre. We has lunch here as there was a cute cafe we all pretty much had tomato and basil soup with a roll and ate the place out of soup! The wildlife place had stuffed animals included badgers, weasel, owls and deer! There were also heaps of midges.
Our next stop was Carsluth Castle (as pictured) which we have a family connection to a few years back! That was amazing no roof or floors though. We continued onto the Cairnholy Cairns took photos and left the road was one way and you could get out of the car it was so tight thank god no cars were coming the other way as it would be a long reverse! There was a pheasant in the field ( eagle)
Then onto Kirkcudbright via the coast to Dalbeattie then NE to Dumfries via Castle Douglas. We checked in to the Manor Hotel and went back to town for a walk then back to the pub!
Tomoz we are off to Hadrians wall
