4.30am this morning I thought I broke my toe! Been in so many different beds I got up and walked into the bunk ladder. I must have said Ouch pretty loud, coz the guy in the bunk above woke and asked if I was ok. Whoops, lol.
Anyway, we checked out, and after having a little whinge about last night's bedding situation, I was given a refund of $5.90. Whoopwhoop!
We got out of the hostel a bit late, it was after 10 I think. First stop, Becky wanted to go to the Museum of National History, not really my thing, but I guess the dinosaur bones were pretty cool.
We had "lunch" in Central Park - from a little side of the road cart. I had to try the famous American pretzels that are all over the place. OMG...they are sooooo good :-) We were just a few meters into the park, and that's all I saw of it coz we ran out of time.
Next stop, downtown to the 9/11 memorial site. We lined up for ages, and went through security checks. Police presence was huge. It was nice to see, and take a moment to reflect.
Next, and last thing on our NY to do list was a ferry ride past the Statue of Liberty. We had a few choices of ferry, but went with the water taxi as we were able to get off at a stop close to home. They stopped and bobbed for about 5 mins in front it, while they played the anthem. It was pretty rocky, and windy, but I got some good shots, and enjoyed seeing her in the "flesh".
When we got off the taxi we had quite a few blocks to walk. We were hurrying a bit as we had booked a shuttle bus to take us across to NJ. At one stage we were running to catch the pedestrian lights, ran each side around a pole, then ran straight into each other, lol! was soooo funny, I don't know how Becky & I didn't collapse with laughter in the middle of the street. She tells me she's terribly clumsy, so it's going to be interesting between the two of us! I reminded her of the other day at Madame Tussauds when we went through a small maze of mirrored walls and I was the only one that walked "smack" into a wall, lol.
Anyway, the shuttle normally takes people to the airport, but since we were the only passengers he kindly dropped us directly at our Hilton Hotel. We eventually found our other tour buddy from the website, Lissy. She seems nice. We chatted a while then decided on an earlyish night since we have to be ready to go at 7.30am! Yikes!! We're all in Trek America share rooms but not with each other. I haven't met mine yet, she wasn't there before, and now I'm writing this down in the lobby, the only part of the hotel with free wi-fi.
Anyway I'm excited that the tour starts tomorrow, and I can't wait to meet everyone in the morning!
Oops better go, it's almost midnight!
Later,
Tracey.

Brad No hot dog yet?
Brad Hmm sounds like it was the blind leading the blind. We all know your clumsy LOL. You've tried the pretzel. Now you can put your $5.90 towards a Hot Dog lol.
Tracey What's the hoo-haa about hotdogs?
