Not happy Jan! I didn't have the best day today :-(
Was up at 6am creeping around packing my bag in the dark and trying to be quiet to not disturb others. Bus & train to the airport. Got there 2 hrs before my flight. Sitting. Waiting. Sitting.
Got stuck in the middle seat between a plump black woman and some business dude. Had no personal tv, and our one in the aisle wasn't working, so I slept most of the way for lack of anything else to do!
Would you believe it took me over 3 hours to catch a train to my hostel?? Yep. Perhaps I got a bit cocky by mastering the public transport in San Fran? But I'm sticking to my story that I swear the train was marked blue E. But somehow I ended up on the orange line going downtown?! Then jumped on another to try to go back uptown, only to realise I was going further down town, arghhhhh! Anyway I eventually stopped and asked a police officer who was very kind and pointed me the right way.
Got off at the right stop this time, but didn't have a map, so hailed a taxi to take me the few blocks to the hostel. I would never have found it!
So ended up checking into the hostel after 11pm when my flight landed at 7.30pm!
I was starving as I hadn't eaten anything, so decided to duck across the road to the cnr store, but it was pouring!! What?? Where did that come from??
So I didn't get to meet my tour buddy Becky tonight. :-(
But there was a silver lining to my bad day - of the 3 nights I'm booked here, they have to move me for night 3 to a different room, so I got a 10% discount, plus free brekky for the 3 days, which is only provided for "premium" customers, whatever that means! I feel special!
It's very quiet in this 10 bed dorm. People were fossicking around when I walked in, but nobody spoke. At least I got a bottom bunk for the first 2 nights. But I really wish that big black chick in the corner would stop snoring & farting, lol.
It's after midnight, so will try to get some sleep...excited to meet Becky tomorrow and go exploring!
Hopefully New York will look brighter for me tomorrow.
