Yay, it didn't rain today! Still cold & miserable though, but at least dry.
First stop NBC to book an afternoon tour.
Next some souvineer shopping in Times Square before our TV & Movie Location tour from 11am-2.30pm. It was pretty good, even though the guide spoke really fast to get the info out while we were passing the spot! We saw the apartment building from Friends, the fire station from Ghostbusters, Heath Ledger's apartment where he lived & died, the Dash store owned by the Khardasions, amongst lots of other places.
We had 2 hours to kill before our NBC Station tour, so wandered around Times Square then decided to go up the Top of the Rock because it was in the same building as NBC. We didn't realise the lines would be so long to get up there (and were just as long to get back down), so by the time we got up there, we didn't have much time to really have a good look, it was more just click a few pix then back in line. When we got back to the bottom, we had to run through the building to find the NBC tour point. Everyone was watching us 2 crazy tourists running around like mad. The tickets said they can refuse you if you're late, and we arrived about 5 mins late, but they were just going in - just made it! We saw some of the studios & learnt some of the tv tricks they use. They talked alot about the Dr Oz show they do and Saturday Night Live.
It was about 6pm by then so we decided on an early dinner - apparently the best pizza in New York.
Next was Empire State Building which we had decided to do after dark. We stopped in and did the Skyline thing, which is like a moving cinema and it looks and feels like you're in a helicopter. It was quite well done.
Then up to the view, and up there it was freeeeeezing! But the night view was amazing and worth it.
A quick stop for some night time pix of Times Square, then two weary travellers headed back to the hostel, hot choccies in hand.
I had to recheck into a different room, and when I got in there it was past 11pm. Some beds were used but empty, and the others all seemed to be male. Didn't bother me, coz Becky had been put in a room with mostly males. Seems they are fully booked and shuffling people around. Some older fellow came in, seemed very surprised to see me, then left again. I was writing this blog about half an hour ago when the manager came in (after midnight, mind you) and asked me to move rooms as they had put me in a male dorm by mistake. Geez, and I had just got settled. So the old bugga blabbed & whinged obviously. So I had to grab all my stuff, follow him to another room which is mixed and wait, holding all my stuff, in my pjs, in the corridor while he stripped sheets off, went to get clean ones & made the bed. And then I wasted half an hour trying to find power points in the semi dark. Finally found some beside my bed but they're useless as the bed frame is pushed up against them. So not impressed right now, coz it's nearly 1am & I can't charge my camera. :-(
Anyway, Becky & I had a great day, we saw lots and had some laughs along the way.
Need sleep ..last day in NY tomorrow, and so much to do. I haven't even seen Statue of Liberty yet...
Later,
Tracey.
