Splish Splosh! Today was cold and rainy! Yuk.
Had my free brekky around 8ish - it wasn't fancy - cereal, fruit & coffee, but, still free!
I met my tour buddy, Becky, around 9am. We're doing the same tour so decided to spend a few days together beforehand exploring New York. She's English and very nice, even though she talks fast and sometimes I have trouble understanding her accent, lol.
It was a miserable rainy day, but, meh, whatcha gonna do about it? We're here to explore, so we did.
First to Times Square to collect my prepaid City Pass full of bargains. Straight then to Madame Tussauds, since we both really wanted to go, and it was inside and dry! It wasn't bad - all the figures are standing around the room, so add to the mix all the tourists and it's hard to tell who's who. I'm sure I apologised for bumping into a wax figure more than once! It really is like mingling with the celebs! Taking good pix is hard without getting a random tourist posing with the figure. We enjoyed it though & took pix of each other with our favs. I posed with Elvis (just for you, mum!) Brad Pitt & some basketball dude that was about 6'10 :-) Some of them were quite life-like, whereas others were more glossy & fake looking. The funniest thing was the band NSync all in a line on one side of a wide corridor, and sort of in the middle of the corridor was a lady taking a photo of them. I watched for ages as people either waited for her to finish, or walked behind her, before they realised she was made of wax too!
Stopped for lunch at a cafe and had soup to try to warm up my insides, it was so cold.
Next we did a tour of Radio City & met a rockette. That was alright, but she seemed a little stuck up when explaining her qualifications!
Stopped for coffee to warm up again, and come up with a game plan for the next few days. Weather forecast says rain, rain and, yea, more rain :-( Disappointing, but can't change it huh! So no point putting off things in the hope of a clearer day tomorrow.
We stopped in for a squizz at Grand Central Station which is pretty big, then stuck our head in to the Chrysler Building nearby - meh.
So we decided to jump on the subway (that's a train) and venture downtown a bit. We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and wandered through a little park there.
We got back to the hostel cold and wet around 6.30pm. We changed to dry clothes then got food delivered so some other schmuck would get wet...hehehe. I got a panini thing with chips & Becky had a burger with chips, and a drink each - with delivery (from the cafe only 2 blocks down) was only US $14. We took a brief squizz around the hostel & found a movie screen & fireplace downstairs. Wish we had known that was there when we came back frozen!
Had an early night and I spent some time repacking my bag, coz I have to check out of this room in the morning, store my bag for the day, then recheck into a different room.
Rain, rain go away!
Later,
Tracey.
