We got a bus back to Copacabana or hippie town for some chill out time and hiking. The first day in Copacabana we went for a walk up Cerro Calvario hill. We got really nice views from the top but the rubbish and all the graffiti sort of spoilt it on the way up especially when it covered all the crosses. That night we went out to the warmest bar we could find for a few drinks where we played some games of connect 4 and as usual Aaron won most of the games. I did better at the cards though. We then went on for more drinks and food where we were served a freezing cold bottle of wine. I expect that in Asia but in South America they should know better. On the plus side we managed to find a room for $4 it is like Cambodia all over again.
The next day we set off on our walk to Yampupata. We weren´t exactly sure where we were going so we headed for the only main dirt road we could find. I am not sure whether we were walking with our eyes closed or what as we managed to miss the first few sites that Lonely Plannet said were obvious. It was only when we reached the Cruta de Lourdes (Virgin in the cave) after 2 hours that we eventually knew we were on the right path. Instead of taking the short cut we carried along the main route as we had plenty of time. What we found out later was that the views along the shortcut were amazing. We continued along the road the views continued to be good but the road seemed to go on and on. Eventually we arrived at Yampupata we wanted to get accross to the island as cheap as possible. The cheapest way was to row but the guy who would of been rowing looked about ninety so we declined and paid for the motor boat. A good decision as when we were leaving the pier a French guy abadoned his row boat as it was to far and clambered on board. When we arrived at the island we disembarked by an inca site not very impressive after Macchu Picchu. We arrived in the small village of Yumani late afternoon staked our claim at a hostel where we met two girls and soon had a bottle of wine open. A nice night in the quiet village then up early to start our trek on the Isla del Sol. The first half of the trek was very nice along the coast through a couple of local villages. We then turned round heading back towards Yumani on a more touristy route we started to encounter people with tickets wanting to sell us enterance to the paths we were using we had no money so could not pay. At the end of the walk we made our way down to the ferry and realised we only just had the money to get back cost more to get off the island than to get on. Back in Copacabana we found a place to stay for 4 dollars a night and booked our ticket back to La Paz. The man who took our booking was half blind but we did end up on the La Paz bus.
