After sixteen hours on a bus where once again I failed to sleep we were tired and happy to share a taxi with Cillian the only other foreigner on the bus. The hostel he had booked was nice it had a DVD room with beanbags everywhere and a pool we decided to stay. That day after a shower we went in hunt of food and headed to the main plaza. It was sunday and even on the main plaza nearly everything was closed. In the end we found a place and after food we felt much better. We then headed back to hostel for some relaxation by pool.
Next day we did very little. We went into the main plaza hung around the pool and watched a very bad film. In the morning decided we would have to move and went off to Samaipata. Had to wait half an hour until we could leave because we needed 4 in every taxi. At Samaipata headed to a hostel it was nice and had two kittens included they were gorgeous. Samaipata is beautiful but hard to get money out so next morning switched to a cheaper hostel no kittens just two parrots. That day we walked up El Fueta a two and a half hour walk each way. The ruins which were pre inca was worth the climb. Although we did hurry around as worried about our camera it was playing up so afraid to turn it off. An advantage of our good pace was we made it back it time for the champions league final.
The next morning we were up early and off to Volcanes in the Amboro National Park. Picked up by a crazy but very friendly German called Frank. Our first stop was at Cuevas Falls some of the more beautiful falls we have seen if not the most impressive. Then we were on to the National Park we had one local guide and a donkey. The donkey had to carry two of our bags and a gas canister kicked out when it was loaded do not think it was very happy. The walk was beautiful along the river however we had to cross the river half a dozen or more times. Everytime I had to take off my trainers. I did try once to negioate over boulders but ended up with a very wet foot. The campsite was amazing just us, two hamocks and the jungle. Should probably mention Keeley and I never been bitten so much. Walked up a very big hill that afternoon and the view was stupendous. That night after dinner lazed in the hammocks watching the fireflys not a bad day.
Next morning hiking went through the river both feet soaking wet then through long grass with tics. Avoided tics but was continually brushing them off me. When we got back to the road our taxi was waiting to take us back to Santa Cruz. The taxi driver was wearing a Pink Floyd T-Shirt a Metallica hat and had ACDC wrist bands but played salsa music the whole journey. Loved Samaipata my favourite place in Boliva.
That night we went out to bar for a drink a couple of Bolivians were playing a game of chess and when they finished I played the winner. After our game of chess they invited us out to see Santa Cruz. Keeley me and a dutch girl went out in their four by four. Cruised the streets for a bit stopping to buy beers. We then went into a club where we stayed for a while when they drove us back to the hostel it was 4.30 am. In the morning did very little as very hungover did just manage to make our 6.30 pm bus to Salta.
