The first stop on my travel agenda is to go visit Ben in Abu Dhabi, over the years Ben has been to visit me in the many places I have lived and its now his time to host, thanks Ben, get that spare bed ready and the drinks cabinet stocked (oh wait, this is the Middle East, am I going to be able to get an alcoholic drink? I have been assured yes!)
To be honest Abu Dhabi most likely would not have made it onto my travel agenda had Ben not been living here, but then that's half the fun of travelling, you end up going to places that perhaps you had not thought to visit.
Rucksack is packed (not travelled with one of those for years and it brings back great memories of my Greek Island hoping adventures before heading off to Uni). I know friends are going to find the image of Flookie with a rucksack (oh backpack for my American friends) very amusing as I am not known for travelling light, but when needs must!
And I'm off.
Thanks BA for a great flight, thanks also to the young Aled R Jones (yes that truly was his name) sat next to me for getting me rather drunk on red wine for the Philly - London segment and talking to me the whole way which meant no sleep for me. Aled an Oxford Law Graduate who had been studying at Penn for a year was returning to finish his pupillage. Let's hope he lays off the red wine to get that completed. We both talked about our love of Philadelphia and Airbnb! A 4 hour layover at Heathrow meant I could down 2 liters of water and eat a rather tasty burrito from Giraffe (I was also too hung over at this stage to hit the expensive duty free shops which given I am now on a budget was a blessing). The 7 hour leg from Heathrow to Abu Dhabi was a breeze since the flight was empty and I had a whole row of seats to myself to catch up on my sleep.
