As Ben was working today and I was recovering from the long trip, it was a day to relax. The apartment is typical Ex Pat accommodation, high end with all the services you need to make living away from home as easy as possible.
It's an odd feeling to know that as a single woman I was not technically "legally" allowed to be staying in the apartment of a man (all be it a friend I've known for over 20 years). Emirate Law does not permit this type of arrangement but it seems no one pays any attention unless a disturbance or a report is made to the authorities. This also seems to be the situation here with a lot of local rules and regulations, there is a lot of blind eye turning, lol! Anyway the front desk staff at reception were very pleasant and I made sure to give them an extra nice smile as I passed and made my way down to the beach as I did not want any trouble.
The complex where the apartment is located has a few bars and restaurants, some shops and a spa that was not yet open (shame). After walking through these areas I came to the private beach who's four beach umbrellas were already taken. I picked a sun lounger, put my towel down, pulled out a book and tried to relax for a spot of sunbathing. I say tried to relax, I lasted all of an hour, dam this is a hot country and its only May. I'm told the weather gets hotter and hotter now and less and less people venture out to the beaches preferring the air-con of their apartments. I beat a hasty retreat back indoors and opted instead to read my book from the comfort of an ice cold apartment till Ben came home. Guess I won't be getting much of a tan in this country :-)
After Ben arrived home from work we headed to the Viceroy on Yas Island for pre dinner cocktails. The hotel situated over the F1 race track, had a very futuristic feel and ambiance and the cocktails were fantastic.
We had dinner at Cipriani's which is a high end Italian restaurant on Yas Island.
My King Crab Salad was somewhat of a disappointment but overall the rest of the food and service was excellent, if expensive. Hum won't be able to keep eating out like this for 6 months, if I keep this up I'll be back at work after this trip! We stopped at Iris, a trendy bar with nice outside seating overlooking the Marina on our way home. It was full of beautiful people all verging on the plastic side, so after one drink we called it a night and left.
