Another absolutly nightmare overnight bus journey back to Bangkok. Slightly more prepared for the theiving thais this time though. Nothing of value was left in my backpack, however, paranoid aint the word!!! After hearing story's of backpackers being gased through the air conditioning i could swear the air conditioning smelt funny on that bus!! I kept hearing noises downstairs and just knew that they were busy going through the bags, there was only slight satisfaction that i knew there was nothing worth taking in my bag! We arrived back in Bangkok at about 6am and true to form our bags had definately been gone through. At this time of the morning, most of the bars/restaurants/cafes were open so we sat and got some breakfast and decided on a place to stay for the next few nights...the Siam Guesthouse right on Khao San road. One room, 3 beds, we checked in and slept til mid afternoon!!!
We had a wonder and Lich made the final decision to join the club and get the tattoo that me and lin had got a few weeks before. We chucked some beers down her neck for dutch courage and she went for it. out the tattoo shop a little while later we started to feel peckish...we found a food stall and thought that would do.........its at this point that i should point out that the food was actually bugs....deep fried ones............when in Rome!!! So i got involved!!! I managed to devour some small grasshoppers, large grasshoppers and some crickets (please see pictures...they are well worth a look!!)...i actually quite enjoyed them and went so far as to actually pay for and eat more than i really needed to!!! We eventually fell into bed about midnight.
13.12.06 Lich found one massive daddy of a cockroach in our room last night...nice!!! Me being dead to the world knew nothing about it til the morning. She had thrown the bin on it durning the night and left it til the next day, it wasnt until i moved the bin that i realised it wasnt actually dead.....thats when i picked it up and just ate the little w***....as if!!!!
14.12.06 We left Bangkok heading for Australia. We got a taxi to the airport and was there slightly earlier than we needed to be but just thought there was no point in hanging around any longer than we needed to. We was at the airport for about an hour just waiting for check-in to open. Once it did we were first in line, however, it turned out that there flight schedule had changed and the flight we was supposed to be on was actually leaving...now!!! If we couldnt get on this plane it would mean we missed our connecting flight from Singapore to Sydney...dramas!!! The check-in woman made some phone calls and managed to get the plane to wait for us but there was no time to check our bags in and we would have to run to the gate.....easier said than done when youve got your life in a bag on your back!!! We eventaully made it to the gate and of course it was the furthest one away, got on the plane and managed to make our connecting flight too...close call!!!
