Today we planned to go to the Golden Palace ( we will get there in the end!) and as we were given advice on conservative dress out of respect i wore black combats, black t-shirt and trainers (you have to be well covered up!). We headed out only to be told the palace does not open til 2pm...it was only 11 am!! Ok change of plan we'll go to Dusit Zoo, back in the other direction we go, its 100 degrees and im covered head to foot in black!...half wayto the zoo we decide its too hot and jump in a tuk tuk the rest of the way, however, theres ANOTHER festival today so the traffic was manic! (im actually learning that this is normal for Thailand).
Eventually made it to the zoo and saw my first live Hippo and Giarff! We watched an animal show completly in Thai (weird) and Mark had also tagged along to the zoo with us. I had a parott sit on my shoulder which was also very coo!
Anyway very hot and sticky so we decide to grab a tuk tuk all the way back (me and mark, lin and lich) on the way back we were stopped at the traffic lights (traffic lights are not that normal in thailand) and the driver tells us that we cant go anywhere because the police have stopped the traffic to let the King drive through...camera was straight out!!..I'd love to say i saw the King but a million cars drive through and he could have been in anyone of the cars but it was cool none the less!
Once the King had passed through the traffic was back to normal and it was every man for himself again!
Back at Khao San, Mark headed off for a kip and we got talking to Tom...a tuk tuk driver who is trying to persuade us to go and see Pat ping who does tricks with a ping pong ball...need i say more!!! Nothing will ever surprise me again!
I brought a Diesel bag today which is more practicle for the day/night than my big old bulky rucksack! We also booked a hostel (The Cozy House Hostel) for the 19th and 20th Nov ready for when we come back from being upo north (chang Mai) it come recommended as Marks staying there and said its nice and only cost 384 bhat a night (5 pound 60 a night!)
Walking towards the hotel we are just browsing the stalls (it takes forever to walk down khao san rd because its soo busy and there is so much stuff everywhere). A bloke at one of the stalls is sitting down eating, i noticed he dropped a bit of food onto the table but he picked it back up and put it on his plate...it happened again?! It wasnt until i looked again that i realised a bit of food hadnt fallen off his plate, it jumped off!! He was eating live insects!! I might pluck up the courage to eat a deep fried grass hopper before i go but thats taking it too far!!
Tonight we are going for a Tradition Thai meal and we'll probably meet up with Mark for a drink as he's on his own and we feel sorry for him :)
Oh and managed to sort the camera...happy days!!!!
