The 20th was a very chilled day, think i was still recovering from the other night. We found out today that Lindseys friend Jamie (which me and lich also know fairly well) is coming out to thailand so im sure we'll meet up with him for a few drinks at some point.
We also organised Visas to go over to Vietnam, an old uni mate (chris) is living out there teaching english and has offered to put us all up so we thought why not!! The visas take 3 days so we plan to fly out there on 23rd which gives us enough time to try and book some cheap flights!!!
21.11.06 we decided to have a shopping day!! I was under strict instructions from my mum to SHOP SHOP SHOP on her behalf....you dont have to ask me twice :) A few bags later we went off to meet Jamie and his thai girlfriend Duan for a few drinks. As they know the area pretty well they decided to take us clubbing (thai style) to a place called RCA which is not overly touristy but is basically a long road filled both sides with bars and clubs. The music wasnt really my cup of tea but i stuck it out anyway and it was certainly an experience!!
22.11.06 we found a little place to send home all our wears (actually wasnt as cheap as we'd thought it would be) but hopefully in 7-10 days the parcel SHOULD arrive home (fingers crossed big time!!) Paid for some much needed washing to be done and picked up our visas and managed to book our flights to Vietnam for thr next day (23.11.06). We also booked a bus to take us to the airport and worked out that we would probably be there a few hours before we needed to be but the earlier bus was cheaper (the things you do eh!!) Sent my mate chris a text telling him our flight times etc and our plans, didnt hear nothing back but didnt think nothing of it................
23.11.06 we checked out of our hostel and thanks to jamie we were able to leave our bags in his hotel room for a few hours before heading off to the airport. We got the 3oclock bus even though our flight wasnt until 19.45......or so we thought......when we got the the airport it turns out that the flights actually at 18.30...just as well we got there a bit earlier eh!!! As it turns out the flight was delayed anyway and now wasnt leaving til 20.20 anyway.....what a drama...i text chris and said we're slightly delayed but its not too bad, see you when we land.......still didnt hear anything back?!....strange but im sure its all ok?!?! Lich is starting to look worried, im laughing and lin's just being lin. Last attempt before we board, i'll try ring him...no answer...oh well whats the worst that can happen?!?
We got to Vietnam airport about 11pm.....no chris?!?!?! Ok girls dont worry we'll just go into town and find a hostel...but let me try chris just once more before we give up hope....BINGO he answers........."hi chris we are here"....."where?"........."erm Vietnam airport"......"oh" he says...."cool"....Turns out his phone has really bad signal and he hadnt gotten ANY of my messages (lucky there were a few emails flying around before hand so it wasnt a complete surprise us turning up) Got a cab to his house near town in Hanoi and met his house mates Georgia and Alex. We ended up going for a drink in a tiny little bar called Red Cave, Chris had to shout us all our drinks as we had no Vietnamese dong!!! Catching up and halfway through a conversation all lights and music went off?!?!?..Apparently this is quite normal and means that basically they are not meant to be open past a certain hour and the person on watch outside has seen the police coming...we had to sit there in silence!!! This happened a few times throughout the evening but it was quite funny and added to the "feel" of the place. I think eventually the police did clock on that there were people inside, it wasnt til later that we realised as a punishment the police had taken customers motorbikes (parked outside) ...this included Chris's bike!!!
The owners of the bar sorted us all out with lifts back home and told chris to come back the next day and they would help him get the bike back. Also learnt thank you in Vietnames - Camearn :)
