Tuesday 14th Nov, we checked out and left the Rama Guesthouse (chang Mai) and went 20 mins down the road in a truck to the bus station. There we got on another bus for about 4 hours to Thaton where we stayed in the beautiful Baansuan Riverside Resort and Hotel right on the River Kok (cough cough). The others in the group decided to go and visit the local temple, me lin, lich and abbie decided that playing cards and drinking would be much more fun!......it so was! The others came back to 4 giggly girls playing Cheat (some others might know it as Bulls**t which was what it was called after 6 beers:) We grabbe some dinner (probably would have been better to eat before drinking but hey) and then headed off to bed.
Wednesday 15th Nov we checked out and headed in a truck for the Myanmar (Burma) boarder. We paid 500 Bhat to go acrossand to get a temporary visa. Across the bridge (that was actually only a road) they were half an hour ahead of the Thais and we quickly realised that there was NOTHING to do here....so we found a bar and got a coke before deciding to head back across the bridge into Thailand......500 bhat well spent NOT!
Nest we headed to the Golden Triangle which is where the boarders of Loas, Thailand and Burma meet. We had some lunch and decided to take the 10 minute boat over to Loas where there was a tourist market selling the (apparently) famous Snake and Scorpion Whiskey......real snakes and scorpions......erm...what?!?!
Back to Thailand we go and off to the Opium museum which is set to become the worlds leading exhibit and reasearch facility for the study of the history of opiate use around the worl (according to the lonelyplanet) We headed to Chang Rai and checked into the Ratchamankha hotel, had showers and headed to the night market.
Thursday 16th Nov was a bit of a nothing day, had breakfast and sat in reception watching filmson HBO (we didnt have it in our rooms) as the others went visiting more temples. That night we went to a really cool bar calles Teepee where it was all cushions on the floor, no chairs and bob marley music. On the way home we had a regulation stop at 7 Eleven to stock up on crisps, chocolate and my new favourite drink chocolate milk!!
Friday 17th Nov we checked out and got trucks to the bus station and then a 3 and half hr bus ride from Chang Rai to Chang Mai. While on the bus the police stopped ua at a check point on got on the bus to check peoples ID cards, i asked someone what they were checking for and he said "Burmeese people"....apparently the Burmeeseare not allowed into Thai cities as they try to work illegally.....or something along those lines.....
Once at Chang Mai we had rooms at the Rama Guesthouse (where we stayed before) where we left our bags and a had a few hrs for lunch before we had to catch the overnight train back to Bangkok. We hadthe 14 hr train ride to look forward to except it didnt take 14 hrs...it took 17!! After being on the train for about an hr and half it suddenly stopped and didnt start moving again for another hr!! Restless we decide to head for the "part carrage" wemanaged to hear about....apparently there was music, lights and beer...and you could smoke....near the open doors! All that awaited uswhen we got th the 'party carrage" was no lights and no music there was a power cut.....but we could still get cold beers...that will do! So we sat drinking beer in the dark...very weird...and i managed to teach some of thecarrage "im forever blowing bubbles"...quality......after a while it got way too dark to see anything with no lights so we decided to head for bed and sleep the rest of the journey.
