As usual I forgot to take a picture of us tucked in the far end of the Wal-Mart parking lot. This time we were the only RV between truckers. Since we arrived late, we slept in, ate breakfast and got going about 10 AM. If we were home we probably would not have left much earlier, but now we are 3 hrs into the trip. That is why I like to leave the evening before when we have a destination to get to on the first day which is more than 300 miles away, so we can arrive and have time to get settled before everyone is grumpgry (grumpy and hungry).
We drove from NY into VT the rest of the 194 miles. With lunch, break and gas stops it was about a 6 hour trip. As we were getting near Burlington I noticed very eerily dark sky ahead of us. I checked the weather and there was a severe thunderstorm warning with 60 mph winds and hail the size of a quarter. We had just passed a pull out area, so we decided to drive back and wait out the storm. We sat in the pull out with other cars for 15 minutes before it was safe to drive out. I am in awe of how God always provides what we need at the right time on our road trips. We have driven through parts of New England with and without the RV before and areas that are RV friendly are far an few in between. We have had to drive for hours before we could find a suitable place to park in order to have lunch. Yet there was a pull out area right where we needed it to wait out the bad storm.
On the way we passed by the Fire hydrant jack that sits in the front yard of an art teacher in Shelburne VT, just south of Burlington. We also passed the Teddy bear factory, everyone was upset I did not plan a stop there. Oh well - I knew it was there, but really did not occur to me they would be interested in it. Now we have a reason to come back to the area.
We arrived at North Beach campground north of Burlington on the shores of Lake Champlain, and immediately after settling, the kids got on their bikes to explore. I took a short nap in my confy zero gravity chair while we waited for pizza. After dinner we checked out the beach. We did not have luck starting a fire without fire starter, everything was too wet, so we made smores in the microwave.
I went to bed early while the rest hung out in the RV since it started raining. Tomorrow we will explore the town and lake shore on our bikes.
