Right team, I realize that I have been a little bit slack in keeping this blog up to date that might have something to do with my adventures......
Firstly there was convergence,a festival north of Christchurch where some rather relaxed folk go....when i say relaxed I mean horizontal and spiritual folk Anyway I arrived in the rain to erect the tent, it never appear fun in the rain but well one smiled on through. However the worst bit was still to come as it was freezing in the night, but to my aid came many a person on the second night I had managed to obtain, another sleeping bag, a mattress, 2 extra blankets and a roll mat. Not bad going I thought. All i needed then was a head torch and I managed one of those too. It was cool it was a weeks worth of camping with your flush toilets to your compost loo's, you could even bathe outside in the outside bathe, I had to partake in such a cool thing and it was actually rather good. Had a conversation with a rather hairy gentleman who was sitting opposite me. All good a! Anyway whilst at the lovely place I met some rather interesting folk but in particular a Swiss, an Austrian and NZlander. They took me under their wing, as well since the whole thing was a vegetarian fueled event we all snook out and grabbed a steak.... marvelous idea i might add. Delicious.
Any way the week passed by and we all got along well, plenty of laughter and giggles and some sauna action, yes they even had a sauna on site which i think is cool for a campsite. Think wales could do with a few of them. Oh there was also plenty of naked people at times you got a good eye full I can tell you!
It came to the last day and it was decided that I would adventure with the red van brigade, that being the 3 guys. Mainly because we all had the same plan of travelling so it was decided. So I left the festival a day ahead, and the guys came and picked up the next day and we were off. Quick stop off for beer and chips then an adventure began.
We drove to kaikoura, lovely place ideal for whale watching apparently, didn't see any of those but did see the ever faithful seals, can't go far without seeing them. It was then a 3hour or trek around the place taking in some sights, plenty of good views I might add and plenty of sand fly bites to go along with that too, I am sure they are immune to repellent. However one has managed to abstain from itching so far....result. We camped, love tenting now me!
Then we headed off to Picton this was to be our stop before we headed to Wellington on the ferry. Best way to describe Picton.... Small and quaint with a good few boats. There was a nice walking track that one did too had some lovely views of the Bay so always good, get the scenery in and all that jazz. I stayed in a backackers this time was delightful, Atlantis it was called and it was to be fair a bloody good one. Nice comfy room and plenty of blankets and cheap so happy days.
Well after that it was a ferry ride to where I am now, Wellington. To be honest as you all mostly know me and large water vessels are not the best of friends but I survived, wasn't too queasy. I lay down for most of the way and felt much better. The journey took about 3 hours and the views were cool got to see parts of marlborough sound which was cool. All in all was a good trip and has been an awesome adventure so far and I reckon it will continue. Tomorrow its onto a bus onto taupo, stopping there for 2 nights then its further up the north island untilone reached auckland. The weather is good, little bit chilly at times but the sun is shining and im still smiling.
Will update soon when I find a place to upload the masses of photos but for now I hope everyone in the uk is well, I'm thinking of you all happy new year and well I will speak to you all soon. x x
