Xin chow,
I arrived in Hue 8am yesterday although I was not entirely sure we would, the train had me awake all night jolting and making some rather loud noises!
We checked into our hotel and I started the day with a nap, I was tired! We then all met for lunch and Wung took us to a very popular little restraunt with intrepid groups. The walls were covered in writing where people had signed them, naturally I signed for ginship.com! The owner could not speak a word of English but could understand us, so he was smiling, making noises and pointing at what I wanted to drink for me-turns out the fruit shake was a very good choice on his part! The bottle opener is quite famous there, a piece of wood with a screw in and we all left with a signed one, so we thought. Apparently 'the couple' had not taken one and the owner came whizzing along on his moped with two for them!
We then had a tour around the purple forbidden city and headed back to our hotel. Time to hit the streets of Hue, we found a little bar with a happy hour, the boys were not impressed however Jo, Sajel and I were quite pleased ladies one free cocktail (it may have been the worlds smallest but stilll)! I then treated myself to a gin and tonic it was good after days weeks of beer! We ate in a little cafe at the grand total of 89p and headed back to the bar for a few rounds of "ring o fire".
Mummy probabley best you do not read the rest!
This morning we met at 8.30am for our motorbike tour... I was excited until I saw the rain and new it would be slippy, I am a nervous passanger anyway. Still we donned our ponchos and yes mummy a helmet and jumped on the back. It filled me with confidence when we skidded through some mud straight away! However we did make it to a little local market through tiny villages and alleys, I think I have the rules of the road sussed now you beep your horn as much as you can, keep going and hope for the best its always exciting riding into head on traffic! We made lots of stops along the way we saw hat and incense stick making, the tombs of the Kings. We stopped for a lovley vegetarian lunch in a nunnary and saw the stadium where tigers and elephants used to fight. You would be amazed the tiny alleyways and cross country we got taken through today, also a grave yard, the children run out from there houses shouting 'hello' and high fiving you as you go past! We then left our drivers and boarded 'the worlds slowest boat' to visit the pagoda which is said to be the most beautiful and oldest in Hue. Back on the boat across the river for our last trip on bikes, you will be pleased to know we only skidded 2 or 3 times and nearlly crashed once in total!
I told you not to read on Mummy but honestly they were quite safe and at no point did I let go to take pictures while I was on the back!
Off to Hoi an tomorrow a 4 hour bus ride away and I'm hoping for some beaches!
Vic book your flights and Emily to if you can.....
