If you wish to hear about ME falling flat on my face please read on........
Ok one final cockroach incident in China and we left on a bus for the boarder cossing into Vietnam, the bus was slightly better this time although full of cellary-very strange!!!
Crossed the boarder into Vietnam very exciting pounced on straight away by men offering there taxi services on a moped or offereing to change my China currency into dong! Using my sixth sense I gathered this was noit a good idea!
Bus ride into the mountains and what a view, although I was slightly concearned we were going to just be greeted with a shack! Happy to see planty of bars, restraunts and our hotel! Very nice, no cockroaches and a double bed wahooooo!
Small walk in the rain, dinner and we finished in a small bar with some australlians, locals, beer and getting whipped at pool!
The next morning we walked down the mountain to another minority village it was again very beautiful and so nice to see green! Although it was a lovely walk down I had to make it back up! To add to the fun it poured and poured and poured! Soaking through my rain coat I was drenched but James, James, Feng and I soldiered on making it back to the hotel for a shower!
Trekking..... to be continued lunch is calling!
Back from lunch...
We met our tour guide for the trekking 'Hung' and left in a jeep to a small village where it began...
It was great up and down on some rough track passing some buffalos ploughing! Also at the start we had 3 local woman following us trying to help, later they would try and sell us stuff! It was slippy due to the rain the previous day but the sun was out and it was hot! I took my first slip, it was minor compared to the next 2! We made our way to the waterfall encoutering some small windy tracks that were wet next to a big drop slightly scary! When we reached the waterfall we were able to climb across it and stop for a rest. Getting off it was another matter when you had to jump over, my legs not being long enough I ended up in the puddle doing the splits almost taking Hung out as he tried to help! It was impressive but there was more to come! Carrying on laughing with one wet foot we continued to climb a big hill to our lunch stop! Filling up and re-energising we continued and then came the rain...out came the poncho and I was sliding all over the show until I could not control it any more and fell flat on my face much to the amusement of everyone else and myself! It was all down wet slippery hills from now and I had to make use of a stick for some kind of balance! I got through the rest we had one last steep hill and Hung told me to run down! I obviously did as I was told but apparently not that fast and went for it almost falling again Hung managed to catch me but I knocked him down, in my defence I was told to run! Lots of slipping and sliding (not just on my part) and we reached the village YAY! A very much needed cold drink and we were off to swim in the waterfall, it was just as slippy and lots of climbing over rocks we made it in so very refreshing!
Much to everyones amusememnt I was cnstantly splashed...We swam over to some rocks and were busy jupimg in until we headed back for a shower and dinner.
With dinner came rice wine, as being guests we could not refuse and after around 10 shots it was finally finished, they like to call it 'happy water' we were all quite happy! The locals then came to perform for us which was great until in return we had to perform back! I tried with the 'bus driver' but no one was mad up for it! So instead we performed the 'okey kokey' terrible! Then there was the 'bamboo dance' in which they bang them together and you dance through! I could actually do this and the evening finished with Kareoke of all the things possible!
Up to bed on our very thin mattresses under a mosquito net and we slept not as well as I would have hoped!
Woke up this morning feeling very stiff! A breakfast of pancakes, my favourite! Not to your standards though m,ummy! We opted to walk back via the road and the sun was out, I was cooking, we all were! To make things better it was all up hill mopeds were whizzing past and offering lifts, Sajel took one, tempting but NO I was going to do it! We found a few taps on the road and soaked ourselves it was nice for 5 minutes until we were cooking agian! The shack was insight where are jeep was collecting us and I marched on! It was amazing to reach it where I had a cold coke waiting for me and water chucked straight over me! Very proud to reach that point all in all it was fun and I just provided some entertainment alonmg the way, I was told mine were the most impressive falls! I took this as a compliment and anything boys can do I can do just as well!! I managed to complete the whole trek and keep up with there pace...
Jeep, hotel, SHOWER!
Off on overnight train to Hanoi later...
