Zoe and Ed's Travels
Hello, we are now in Ayuthaya. We flew down from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, and avoided the capital by getting the train straight to Ayuthaya from the airport. Ayuthaya is a historic old capital full of ruined temples, and we spent an enjoyable day visiting the main sites by bicycle. It is currently the Thai New year, Song Kran, which entails soaking passers-by with water (preferably iced water) by bucket, water pistol, hose-pipe or elephant trunk, whichever is most convenient. Also pasting people with a mixture of flour and water. We managed to survive relatively intact from this, although I do wish I had bought a water pistol now for some revenge.
Chiang Mai is the place where the Song Kran goes crazy so we left just in time. We did a cookery course while we were there which was quite good, although not quite what the brochure promised. However we did make some tasty food, and almost set ourselves on fire (on purpose) learning extreme stir-frying!
Tomorrow we go to Bangkok and then fly to Hanoi.
