Hi Friends,
Its been a week since we last blogged so heres a bit of an update:
Spent monday and tuesday in Airlie Beach, a touristy seaside town in Queensland. The weather was good but there was nothing to do there except sunbathe so two days there was more than enough. We stayed in this grotty hostel on the first night, by far the worst one we've been in so far and also the most expensive. We checked out of there sharpish and found a nicer one for the next night.
On wednesday morning we got the coach to Townsville (one and an half hour delay as the bus had broken down, ah the joys of greyhound) which took about five hours. Found a nice little hostel called Reef Lodge, then went for a walk around the city (suprisingly quiet really) towards the cinema where we saw the new Harry Potter film. Entertaining i suppose, but not much really happened did it? We then had a nice dinner in a cheap italian restaurant and drank cheap but tasty wine.
Thursday was spent walking up Castle Hill, which we found to be more of a mount really, for amazing views of the city then chilling on the beach and visiting a small (free) art gallery. In the evening we watched blood diamond at the hostel. Oh leo, how you dazzle us with your amusing south african accent.
On Friday we met up with my Aunt and Uncle, who live here in townsville, and took Alex and I sailing for the weekend on their boat. Alex and i were both very impressed with both the company and the boat itself. We expected something small and average, what we got upon arrival at the marina was a 46ft luxury catamaran. We sailed over to magnetic island, where we stayed until Sunday afternoon. The weekend involved a bit of discovering the very pretty island, and a lot of good conversation, good food and good wine! Thanks Lucy and Mal - we had an amazing weekend which added a spark of class to our otherwise very routine (but still fun) backpacker lifestyle of dirty clothes and cheap hostels.
Monday saw us leaving Townsville for Mission beach, where the weather was atrocious but the hostel - on the outskirts of the rainforest - was beautiful. We left there this morning (tuesday) and are now in Cairns where we're staying until Saturday when we fly to singapore. We've been in Oz for three weeks now and its all gone so quickly, though we're very much looking forward to the next leg of our journey (asia).
Lots of love
Zoe and Alex.
