well today is our last day in australia, a very sad day indeed. we have had an amazing time and especially in byron bay!
since our last post all we have done is work in the garden, eat, surf and the occasional kayak. not a bad life to be honest! we have sorted out rays garden doing ALOT of weeding and tree cutting and then a little but of mulching at the end. the surf has been excellent, we've had some great waves and ive really enjoyed getting back into body boarding (especially doing almost mastering 360's) good times. yesterday in fast a turtle swam right next to me so i swam withit for a bit and a few days earlier a 2 dolphins were swimmign about and swam right under my board! no need to pay to swim with dolphins! (tbh could have been a shark...). the swell has died down over the last few days but we have had a few little paddles and its been good fun! we went kayaking out by brunswick heads the other day as well, kayaking with our mate fishy the goat (ben) we went up the river and mucked about. pretty good fun and charlie also jumped off a bridge! we also went surfing out there and it was like rock beach but in australia just nothing there just a massive long beach, very nice except for getting stung by a jelly fish! it didnt hurt that much as it was only a blue bottle but still a story worth telling!
we met up with some english girls who are friends with charlies family and that was cool, had a bbq over an open bonfire which charlie and i made out of all the wood we had cut down! it was huge and was a very chilled out evening. the stars in the sky were incredible! on that note i may have sai this in my last blog but a couple of days ago ray came running down and shouts boys boys come look at the sky something wierd is going on! so we went out on to the porch and in the night sky were about 6 or seven flashing orange lights. just sitting there, suddenly they started swapping places and moving until they one by one disappeard! very strange. ufo or chinese sky lanterns.... very wierd!
today we are leaving for brisbane to spend one night there and get a flight to new zealand tommorrow. charlie thought this was the perfect time to jump off a 29 metre rock into a quarry... which tbh looked awesome but now his back hurts like hell! he is currently sitting downstairs on the sofa while i have the daunting task of carrying my bag and his bag to the airport... thats about 45 kgs! he'll be fine, i just keep telling him im a life guard but that doesn't seem to reassure him! hahaha no im joking hes fine. any way.
to sum up australia, its been amazing!
melbourne was a very vibey city with lots going on and an amaing live music scene. had some really good times there apart from in our hostel where some of the people were pretty unfriendly. i think its becuase they were living and working there but what ever. english irish and scottish people have been the most grumpy people on this trip.well done uk. we also had a really good time with madeliene, who we met in bali and stayed with in melbourne.
the great ocean road was fantastic and so were the grampians. we had a good tour guide and i we saw everything but didnt hang around to long in each place (which i kinda liked because we didnt get bored!) the views were insane and we got to see koalas and kangaroos and lizards! the wine tasting at the end was also good fun! so was the 70 year old who was talking to us about girls wearing thongs and wether we liked them... (the panty kind not the australian name for flip flops! haha)
sydney was really good fun and we managed to see all the sites! i really liked seeing all the massive fruit bats in the botanical gardens. very cool. the sydney harbour bridge and the opera house were really cool as well. our hostel chili blue was really good place to stay and we had a great time! the blue mountains were pretty good as well but the tour man was a but of a douche but was still a cool trip.
byron bay has been the best place we have visited i recon! we have had an amazing time. ray and jenny have been amazing and its like being at home from home! we have some amazing surf, seen turtles and rays and dolphins and a suspected shark fin. we have had cook outs and bbqs and its just been fantastic. yesterday i walked to the light house in the picture and got some amazing photos! we have kinda settled in and so a bit nervous about going off to hostels again!
overall my time in australia has been far to short for my liking but we have spent in perfectly. we havent travelled much but we had a chance to chill out and live the australian life style for a couple of weeks! (and its a pretty good life stylye!!) I will be definatly coming back to aus and most certainly coming back to byron. maybe next time ill be able to venture further north and a road trip will definately be on the cards!
good by aus! we will miss you!
