we arrived in a fiji with nothing planned and ended up booking everything at the airport! we should have bought some duty free stuff though as alcohol is very expensive everywhere else!!! we got a bus to the hostel and chilled out. we met a guy called tom who we ended up travelling with for a few weeks! we were just happy to be back in the warm!!!
the next day was cloudy but we boarded our boat and set sail for beachcomber island! it was so small you could walk around it in 5 minutes!! everything in fiji is chilled out. they run by fiji time now real time! on beachcomber we chilled out, drank alot, met some cool guys, played volley ball, went naked swimming (standard) and drank alot of rum! we asked for the most alcoholic shot she could give us. we drank this shot and nearly died. it turned out she gave us half a shot of 58% RUM with half a shot of tobasco. not fun at all. the barmaid was laughing for ages!!! there was great snorkelling in fiji and just off of beachcomber we saw a reef shark just hiding under some coral. we ended up slapping its tail and got some good photos. there was so much coral and it ust looked amazing! we also partied alot on beachcomber. the dorm was also the biggest dorm ive ever slept in. there were 100 bunk beds. actually very comfortable!! haha
the next island we went to was malolo to a resort called walu beach! now this was my favourite place! it was bliss. it was very chilled out, had free pool and table tennis which charlie and i sessioned quite alot! they were so old and the pool table sloped massively!! this was by far the best accommodation as well. we took use of the free kayaks and went out, we ended up kayaking through some mangroves and to a small rock island. there was no wind and the sky was a bit grey and the sea and sky merged together. it was crazy. very weird but beautiful. the next day we went snorkelling and saw a sea snake and eels and played with sea cucumbers which have a very amusing and crude defense mechanism. (spewing out white stuff if you touch them...) we also saw loads of rays and loads of crabs! everyone was so friendly as well! we had a good group.
rachel who i met in nz ended up coming over to malolo for a few days which was amazng. we chilled out with them and went island hopping one day. we went to malolo li and walked around. so nice. proper paradise. so sunny and blue! we went snorkelling just off of a sand bar. walu beach was just chilled out and such a good time!
we then went to mana island where we met up with adam from the kiwi bus and tom from nadi. we had fun playing rugby and going fishing and snorkelling. we saw another shark as well! rachel left and so we chilled out for a few more days then headed back to nadi.
we got back to the main island on the 22nd only to realise our flight had been ont he 21st. massive blunder! oh well it meant we had an extra week in fiji!! not a bad thing at all!
we ended up chilling in nadi which is quite boring and was running out of money so didnt do much! one day we went to see some hot springs and mud pools which was so much fun. so cool. we watched fire dances and attended kava sessions pretty much every night which was so cool t watch. we even had a go at fire dancing. ( i managed to burn all the hair off my right arm) i actually managed to spin the stick around pretty well. (its my life guard skills coming into play) fiji is awesome.
one day we went with some aussies who had a car and just drove to the middle of the island and looked around. it was a proper adventure and we walked up creeks and tried to get as high as we could up some hills. this was proper fiji and was properly off the beaten path! we saw some villages and had a pretty cultural day.
after this we just chilled around and got a tan. waiting for our time to go to hawaii!!
the main island in fiji was a bit boring but the smaller islands were amazing. i had a great time in fiji and enjoyed every moment of it! my favourite island was malolo just because it was so chilled out. and rachel came and we got free kayaks and we just lazed around... and i got to hear the new deftones album!!! haha charlie also got food poisoning on mana island so the day we headed to nadi was not a good one!
as we headed to hawaii we had to stop over in samoa where they took my bottle of rum i had, away from me. most annoying.
all in all. fiji was amazing. i am going back.
