Phi Phi Island...we have so much to say about this place, we loved it!!!! We were originally going to stay for one week but loved it so much we decided to stay for two! We arrived after another long journey (bit of a theme going!) and really annoyed because we got ripped off by the woman who sold us the ferry ticket and put onto a different ferry to the one we wanted. We had arranged to meet Bally and Eve (who we met in Cambodia) and told them the exact time and which boat we would be getting off, and we didn't basically so we were really annoyed at them having to wait for us. Anyway, we got there eventually and met up with them which was great, we found our hotel to be about a 20 minute walk from the pier which doesn't sound a lot but when you are carrying a 100 litre bag in the midday sun it becomes pretty hard! So we went on a snorkelling trip which was cool, we went to Maya Bay which is the place where they filmed 'The Beach' which is just lovely, really pretty place and the snorkelling is great, the water is so clear and there are so many fish. We also went past a place called Viking Cave which is where they collect the bird's nests to send to China for them to make bird's nest soup...nice! We were supposed to stop at a few other places as well but the sea was really rough, we were pooping ourselves, we kept thinking the boat was going to capsize!!! We then watched the sunset from the boat which was stunning. That night we went for dinner and then went to watch some Thai Boxing, glad we've seen it but we won't be going back, I wasn't keen! It was a bit rough. Was quite funny though because the tourists got up to fight each other and these two guys got up and were hopeless! They were doing the whole helicopter arm punches, they were terrible!
We tried diving! I managed to persuade Phil to give it a go too. It was a slight disaster though, we went for a day where you do 2 dives and basically get a taster to see if you like it. So we went down for the first dive and I coudn't equalise (which is just basically popping your ears) so I was getting a bit of pain in my ears and trying and trying to equalise them throughout the whole dive, trying so hard that when I re-surfaced I had a nose bleed! Anyway, it was still cool, we saw a shark! Couldn't believe it, first ever dive and we see a shark. It was a Leopard Shark apparently, it was great and we weren't really scared which was strange because I thought we would have been. Also, the amount of different fish is unreal, they are amazing. I didn't manage the second dive, I tried to go down but still couldn't equalise my ears, I was so gutted, I think I might have tried too soon after a head cold so I might still try again at some point. Phil went down though and saw a Turtle! Lucky thing, the divemasters were saying how lucky we were with what we saw in just 2 dives, great!!!
So because we had become so aquainted with the shark family we decided to go snorkelling with the Black Tip Reef Sharks near the island! We had to get up at 05.30am which was a killer, you have to go early because the sharks prefer the cooler water and there aren't any boats to frighten them away. It was great, we saw loads of them, loads of smaller ones and a few bigger ones which were about 2-3 meters! Most of them didn't bother with us at all but a few came quite close, just checking us out I think! We both loved it, we had a great time.
We also went on another snorkelling trip which took us to a place called Bamboo Island, this place was paradise, heaven on earth. We have never seen a place so beautiful, it was just perfect. The sand was so fine it was like talc and the water was crystal clear. The place was amazing, check out the photos, it looks good on the photos but even they don't show the true beauty of the place. We went to Monkey Island as well where the monkeys live. You had to swim over from the boat but when you got close to the island there was loads of coral that you had to clamber over which was terrible, I didn't make it all the way and I'm quite glad I didn't now because 2 girls from the trip got attacked by them! They had scratches down their legs! No thanks!
Oh...and we went for a Thai massage!!!!! For anyone visiting Thailand, you musn't leave until you have had a Thai massage, just fabulous! We were so relaxed we were almost falling asleep.
The island itself is really small, you can walk around the whole place really easily and its great because there are no roads, no traffic, just great, no fearing for your life when crossing the road, just complete and utter chill out! We went to the same place for lunch every day for a cheese and chicken baguette! We sat in the same place most days at the beach, so we ended up knowing most of the people on the island. The woman in the internet shop actually asked us one day if we were ever going to leave! Cheeky thing! Oh, and we found a cafe called 007 (James Bond theme if you hadn't guessed!) that did pies and jacket potatoes! I had a jacket potato with cheese about 4 times while we were there, it was great!
There was this woman who came on the beach every day selling doughnuts for 10 baht, Phil had one every day! She was so funny she would sing away 'doughnuts, 10 baht, I have Blueberry, Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla, you want try?!' then she would sing '10 baht, 10 baht, 10 baht, 10 baht' in the tune of 'olay, olay, olay, olay'!!!!! She was great, we loved her!
We didn't sample too much of the nighlife, had a few drinks in some different bars but we were both complete sun worshippers for the 2 weeks and had to make sure we could get up to sun bathe the next morning! It was so hot, the sweat just drips off you, you only manage a few hours of actually sitting in the sun, it was a scorcher! It was weird though, we had a few storms while we were there and the rain is so heavy. Also, there is lightening pretty much every night which is weird.
You can still see some of the effects from the Tsunami, they are still not quite finished re-building everything but they have done a great job considering. You hardly notice it as well because the island is just beautiful, if anyone is passing you must stop here, well worth a visit. Nearlly forgot to mention the shopping....!!! Its great! There are jewellery shops everywhere, as you can imagine, Phil was loving it!!!!
Again, hope you like the photos, loads of love to everyone, we're off to Kuala Lumpur now...we don't want to leave!!!!
