Well it's been a busy week. It doesn't feel like the first week back after Paris.
Monday and Tuesday were the usual loooong days, starting at 8 and finishing at 8. Tuesday was slightly better though, due to a number of things, the first and most important being that i managed not to fall over in the snow that is only just receding now as the weather has got warmer and the second being that me, Tracey, Jack and Seamus decided to treat ourselves to a dinner menu which was a nice break to the day. Other than that it was a very uneventful start to the week. Didn't last long.
Wednesday was the usual early morning start but we had comedy night to look forward to this time. The last english speaking comedy night was way back in November and having been to all of the nights put on (which were all brilliant), we were eagerly aniticipating wednesday night. I met Trace for some vietnamese food beforehand to warm the cockles before trekking through the snow to Clubwash (the venue that's a bar and a laundry that I've mentioned before). We arrived and got seats at the front and waited for Anthony and Jack to arrive. The first comedian was from Canada and was mediocre at best. The headliner was a german guy so we were getting a bit wary about whether he was going to be any good or not, however, lo and behold, turned out to be the only funny german in the world. Maybe not, but he was really good, even despite the turn of events that happened right at the end of his set which was the most funny/embarrassing/shocking thing I've seen in a while and was inadvertently MY fault... but that's not a story that can be repeated in writing I'm afraid; that's a story for another day...
We got in quite late for a midweek night, ending up in a nonstop with a german and hungarian who must have thought we were mad. I missed the 3am bus and didnt realize that that buses in the week only run every hour n not every 30 mins so ended up in a taxi at 4 o clock in the morning but it was worth it. 4 hours later I was up and getting ready for a meeting with the Director of Studies at another school in the city to try and pick up a few hours. It was a really good meeting, Ralph was absolutely lovely and the school is brilliant. They've got a really nice cafe attached to the place and the classrooms are all decked out really well, so fingers crossed he's got a few hours for me in the next couple of weeks :D.
Friday was the usual busy day with teaching and then a million staff meetins and sessions happening in the afternoon, but we managed to slip off for a bit of dinner first as usual. Luckily they didn't go on too long and we ended up downstairs in the pub earlier than we thought. We didn't stay all night and dwindled down to me and Jack by 8pm so took up Tracey's off of going round to watch a film. She's just bought a fancy little projector for teaching and as an alternative to a TV at her place so we christened it with a couple of drinks. It was nice not to go mad and spend loads of money too which tends to happen on Fridays.
So yesterday (Sat), I got up pretty early and went into town in search of fancy dress for Jack, David and Lily-Anne's brithday party. I found a few bits and bobs like ears and make up ideas for the theme of book characters. In the end, I settled on Aslan, the lion, from the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. That's me in the picture at the top. I had a bit of a trauma trying to get into town without anyone seeing my face like this and basically looked like a terrorist on the tram but the alternative would have been more embarrassing. There were only a few of us dressed up out of about 40 people but still was nice to see. We had a really good night, particularly as they had a juke box and so we could pick the music. The place is really expensive though so I haven't even tried to count how much money I've got left...pittance I expect.
So a busy week all in all which I'm sure will only continue next week. That's all for now and I'll update again soon :).
