Dave 's BIG adventure!
If you have read my blogs, then you will know that i complained about the lack of waterfalls on show so far, well it was waterfalls i wanted, and it was waterfalls i got! thanks to Captain Matty's Barefoot tours!!
There are many tablelands tours but this one really stood out (not just because captain Jack Sparrow was actuallybased on Captain Matty!) but because this one was all about just having a laugh! all the the tours go to the same places and do the same things but it was Captain Matty that makes this one special! and that's why he could never take on other tour guides, because you just wouldn't get the same experience!
So we started at Cathedral fig tree a 500 year old tree, which was used or the base for most of the trees in avatar! then on to Lake Eachham! a volcanic crater lake, which we saw turtles in then jump in for a swim! very hard work as there's no salt in the water so you just sink if you don't keep moving! while we swam, Matty prepared us with a tropical morning tea a lot of fresh fruit some from his own garden!
We then travelled on to Dinner falls for some action shots of us jumping in! and The Crater, that Matty just describes just a a really big hole! (and it was just that!)
lunch was next on the agenda, so it was off to the Millaa Millaa pub to eat, and meet the owner Terry (a true Aussie! as he likes to be known) then on to the Millaa Millaa falls! possibly the most famous of all the waterfalls inQueensland! now rumour has it that this is where Peter Andre filmed some of the video for mysterious girl! plus the hair shampoo advert where the girls on the rocks flicking her back!
Due to bad weather and rising water we misted out the next two falls Zillie and Ellinjaa but if your going to do something in the rain, you might as well be standing under a water fall!
So on to Josephine falls stopping briefly at Crawford's lookout! sadly the low clouds didn't make for the best viewsbut we got the point! Now the hole day Matty warned us that we may not be able to go in at Josephine falls as the water rises very quickly and could be to dangerous! 4 deaths were reported last year! but this was the one we all wanted to do because of the natural water slide! But we left the bus knowing that we my only get to take some photos! but our luck was in and we were aloud! a guy from the hostel did the same tour with a different company and went there in the morning! and didn't get the chance to go in! we went in and all survived! so then when for a well deserved afternoon tea made by Matty again!
From there it was home! that took about an hour! so Matty put the DVD happy feet on however i think most where asleep my the time we got back to Cairns!
A great day and a great tour! i would defiantly recommend this to any one who wants to learn about the rain forest, water falls, butter flys (Captain Matty has an obsession!) pretend to be Peter Andre (pre Jordan) or just have a laugh!
