Gore was a small town famous for country music and dance, we found it convenient to have our breakfast, dump our waste and refill on water…..whilst also shopping for insulation in the form of thick men's thermal socks and disgusting functional wooly slippers. The people of Gore were extremely helpful and friendly, advising us on directions, thermals and weather conditions. From Gore we headed to Te-Anau and continued on with our 8 hour journey, Te-Anau is a beautiful little village set around a lake, perfectly blue in colour surrounded by snow capped mountains. We stopped for a hot chocolate and strolled along the lake where Donzy couldn't resist wedging her head into a trout photo opportunity………pleased with herself for cheating the coin operated machine! Lucy sat amused taking pictures, hoping she wouldn't have to call the fire brigade anytime soon as Donzy struggled to get released!
As we made headway to Milford Sound we passed through some amazing rugged terrain driving in and around the lofty peak of snow and ice fall, observing mirrored lakes and gushing rivers. The snow made it feel truly magical! This may explain our excitement by singing our campervan theme tune (every time we saw another campervan from the same company as ours……..you have to find some way of passing the time?) we arrived at Milford Sound and we were taken back by the scenery of a five peak summit bordering fresh water sitting on top of the sea water giving the mirrored effect also there were over 100 waterfalls gushing from the sheer walls of the sound, we seriously couldn't believe it…………..the vast scale of this place has to be experienced to be believed!
