The last week has been quite different. In Potosi we did very little apart from hang around. The main attraction there is a old silver mine where working practice is Victorian at best. Neither of us fancied crawling through small tunnels and watching children work.
We did witness a fiesta and were swept along by a group of young Bolivians who kindly shared their Casa Real and crisps with us. The higlight of the night was when they took us to a nightclub.......generously titled! The music was cheap eighties pop tunes!! It was definately an experience!
After Pitosi we headed to Tupiza hence why we have been out of contact with civilisation for the past 5 days as we have been on a tour of the Salar de Uyuni.
We headed out in a 4x4 from Tupiza with 2 South African blokes, our driver Wilmer and cook Isobella.
The scenery from start to finish was fantastic and varied, large rock formations, geysers, Lakes, mountains, Alpacas, and the worlds largest and highest salt flat with massive cacti!
I think its fair to say that this has been the highlight of our trip so far.
Our driver/guide spoke no English so this was quite a challenge, but was a great help to our Spanish.
On the second day, the weather was warm and sunny so we spent the morning in some hot springs, however, within an hour, the weather changed dramatically and began snowing! However Wilmer and Anita the land cruiser were brilliant and got us to safety.
So in the space of one day we had been in our beach wear but by evening we were having snow ball fights!
The climax of the trip was Salar De Uyuni, we watched the sun rise over the flats and then ate breakfast surrounded by 12metre cacti!
It was absolutley stunning. Needless to say, we have taken literally hundreds of photos which hopefully we will be able to upload asap.
So now showered and rested, we are in the town of Uyuni......got absolutley nothing pleasant to say about this place, we saw a dead dog in the road on our arrival which basically set the tone for the rest of the town!
Tonight we are catching yet another 14 hour bus to La Paz and plan to stay there for a few days before heading off to Lake Titicaca.
