14/10/11
Interesting news items during our trip down to Napier included;-
A farmer who found a 'geep' in his flock, or it could be a 'shoat'. Either way, 'ewe' can no doubt assume that there was a night of passion between a randy old goat and a sheep, or vice-versa.
You have to feel for poor old Coronation Street fan Mabel Randell, 80, who is distraught following the re-scheduling of her beloved programme to make way for Celebrity Chef. It will leave a 'hole in her life'. Bless her!
(By the way, R.I.P Minnie Driver aka Betty and her hot pot)
The Welsh rugby team travelled to Poland for some cryotherapy in what Sam Warburton described as an 'evil sauna'. It basically fools your body into thinking it's dying and floods the bloodstream with endorphins, but strangely the effects are pain relief, superior healing times and revitalisation of the skin.
(Didn't work last night though as the French, through poorer play, left them like dejected bâtonnets de poisson)
So, a quick update as I sit waiting for Ian to finish at the the 'dump station'!
Arrived in Napier on Friday 14/10/11 and cycled into this lovely Art Deco town, via the seafront. Following it's destruction by an earthquake, the town was rebuilt in 1931 in the Art Deco/Italianate style and this transcends right throughout the town and into the social fabric; cars, clothes, bars etc
A very steep climb to Bluff Hill, past some amazing cliff top houses, afforded us a fantastic panorama of the surrounding area and the blue Pacific ocean stretching on to the Pitcairn Islands and beyond into, well, nothingness
I could go on and give you a 'guided tour' of Napier, but I'll save that for the slide show. (You lucky people) Suffice to say, we found a pub, looked at some architecture, went on an excellent wine tour and watched the Welsh outplay the 'triumphant' Frogs.
We are now stocked up with Cab Sav, Syrah, Sauvignon, up and coming Viognier and Tawny (port) fortified wine, all from the Hawke's bay vineyards and grown in the Gimblett Gravels.
Now on our way to Wellington, shades on and listening to Crowded House.
Drive carefully Ian..wine on-board!
